Ah. Thanks for the explanation.

Something you could try is buying an external USB hard drive (ideally USB 3.0 if the computers support it), and installing Windows and Solidworks on that.

I'm uploading all the files to 3D Content Central now, they should be up soon, including the STEP files!

How can we find/search for the pertinent 2014FRC files on 3DCentral.com? Tags, contributor's name ...?

I'll be uploading them, so you can search for me or you can use the tag 2014kop.
Hope that helps, I'm trying to upload more files now, but I think I may have broke the 3DCC server... which is hilarious...

I am new to Solidworks, and am not fully sure what to do to have the KoP be assebled together? I have downloaded the zip file from solidworks, but not fully sure what to do with all the CAD parts?

Re: pic: KitBot in SolidWorks Long and Wide Assemblies

In SolidWorks there are three tops of documents:
Part - a single entity
Assembly - combination of parts. Parts are also called components.
Drawing - 2d representation of a part or assembly

You should see 3 folders Black, Green, and KitBot. Black and Green folders correspond to the kop parts lists. The KitBot folder contains three major assembly examples of many of the parts put together, AndyMarks KitBot in a long version and wide version and a control systems example assembly.

If you want to use the KitBot frame, I would take a look at the provided example. If you want to design your own frame from Andymark parts, go take a look at the robotics section www.solidworks.com/tutorials.

In the Andymark assemblies, half the frame is modeled and then a mirrored component of the other half is used to complete the assembly.

To create an assembly, click New, Assembly.
Click insert Component. Browse. Select a part or subassembly.
Click Ok. The first part is fixed to the Origin.
Insert a second part. This second part is free to translate and rotate.
Use mates to constrain geometry. For example a cylindrical face of an axle to a cylindrical face of a wheel would be a concentric mate.
I can help you through the learning curve and there are many talented people here that know SolidWorks. Just give us your questions. Marie
