Autonomous mode rules question

I see nothing that your robot can not move forward up to the goal or even in the goalie zone take your shot at one of the goals all in the 10 seconds allowed. Moving into the next zone gets you your mobility points. Getting closer to the target is always better. Just wondering if I am reading this properly. Because in the video release they continue to show each robot shooting from the white zone. Just wondering if that is right, you can move closer to the goal then shoot at the target. scoring in the target plus getting your mobility points in auto.

After reading the manual, I don't believe that there is anything against going right up to the wall with your ball for the shot

Off topic, but don't you score more points of the robot repositions itself after the match starts?

The video is a very rough outline of the game and should not be used for any rule judgments.

Read through the Autonomous Rules section. If there isn't a rule disallowing it, then you can do it.

As far as getting closer to the target, it is best to not make assumptions. Look at this from the robot's point of view, and think about the path of your projectile and the perceived size of the target (for example, with your target being an opening in a plane, the target's perceived size is largest when the vector between the robot and the opening is perpendicular to the plane, and the target appears smallest when you are located on that plane). If you are making a decision you should always have a reason to back it up.

I think he's referring to the bonus for moving from white to colored sections of the field.

It's a 5 point "mobility bonus" for moving your robot from the white zone to your alliance zone.

Something to think about...
As always the GDC left ambiguity in this rule.

What if you do not "fully" cross but still hit an opponent robot?

How have they handled this in the past?

Also I wonder about their definition of fully (does that mean past the center line? past the far side? past the close side? bumpers too? or just frame? Or if you have extend the robot by 20", that too?

Quote:

G15
During AUTO,

a ROBOT starting in the white ZONE may not cross fully beyond the TRUSS
a ROBOT starting in its GOALIE ZONE must remain in contact with the carpet in its GOALIE ZONE.

Violation: FOUL. If contact with an opponent ROBOT, TECHNICAL FOUL.

Re: Autonomous mode rules question

As I see it you start in the white zone....game begins you move forward 10 feet shoot at the target score you just made 20 points. Because you scored in the high basket (10) plus 5 points for the auto plus 5 for the mobility now if you were lucky or as we plan to program the tracking, you hit the hot zone you get another 5. Scoring 25 total for Auto. Does that seem logical, does anyone see this as an issue?

Er, if there is an issue with this, where might it arise? That's basically the auto scoring as defined in the manual...

I don't understand your confusion. Fully beyond the truss means your entire robot is past it. If any part of your robot is still under it, you haven't gone beyond it yet. I would consider that if you don't see a gap between the truss and the robot when looking along the line from one side support to the other, the robot is not violating the G15 rule.

Re: Autonomous mode rules question

I have also had this question, as far as i have found, there is no rule to the order at which the tasks are to be done. (Moving forward and shooting) i don't know about moving into the goalie zone though. For the reason, the goalie zone between your bot and your goal is the other team's. I didnt see any ruling saying you can't enter your oponents goalie zone, but i could be wrong, just giving my thoughts.

You can enter your opponents goalie zone, you just cannot extend beyond 5 feet in it.

beyond 5 ft high that is. AND avoid hitting an opposing robot.
