Shooter designs from the 2008 Overdrive season

Does anyone have any links to Shooter designs and descriptions from the 2008 Overdrive season?

I recall there being some robots designed to launch the big 40" ball with the same type of bag and these may be some good design ideas to revisit...

thanks

No links...our team's web page (and forum) disappeared over the years. But I did find our 2008 notebook, and there is some neat stuff in it!

1114's World Championship design would be a good place to start.

It may be a decade before we see another robot as dominant as the Simbot SS.

It'll probably be only a couple months before we see a bunch of robots similar to it though :)

One good place to go would be youtube. We've been researching both shooters and pickup from the 2008 season and have already found a number of interesting designs we intend to prototype.

Packaging that robot for this year's rules is doable but challenging. I think there are better approaches this year but I expect at least one "Simbot clone" to be successful in some way. I think you'll see a lot more robots that look like 16 that year.

One idea that has enchanted a lot of people on my team is the 987-style shooter. This robot actually shot balls a few feet just by reversing its roller claw. I feel like there's some kind of black magic to this and it's not as simple as fast, powerful claw rollers... I guess we'll find out in prototyping.

Does anyone have pictures of that robot? I have scoured the Internet for pictures and video, but have not found anything.

Video of Team 16's 2008 robot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtMPpETrRNM

One of my favorite robots from that year. That swerve drive is just so smooth! And flop bots are always cool.

Here is a video showing 118, 16, 148, and 1477 in a finals match.

148 might not shoot the ball, but they're an excellent demonstration of the principle that there are many solutions to a given problem. Shooting doesn't have to be a priority.

It's not the kind of thing that anyone but the author could make sense of, I think.

Steven shared a picture of the finished catapault....it has all the info you need, I think.

Nice, how was the launcher (linear punch) set up?

I like the robot in 3 days approach but the launcher might require much more launch range capability for autonomous mode...

Thanks

As far as I understand it, 1114's puncher was a spring powered fire, winch driven wind up. (I think it used surgical tubing for the spring power). The winch used a motor with gearbox to wind it up, and then pieces of an andymark dog shifting transmission were used in a configuration to shift the winch to neutral and let the spring power unwind the winch.
