FIRST Button on WindRiver not appearing

Let me start from the beginning, back in 2013 I accidentally forgot to uninstall WindRiver from the previous year before installing the 2013 version of WindRiver. I was able to fix it somehow(I don't remember how though) but whenever I tried to uninstall it through the Windows control panel, I would get error:NULL. What I did next this year was delete the WindRiver directory and the WindRiver folder found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Universal because that was a solution that another FIRST member found in this thread.

I then proceded to install WindRiver using both discs since the laptop I am using is running Windows 7. I did not open WindRiver between installing each disc. After I installed each disc, I then installed the mandatory C++ update or the workbench update. After doing this multiple times I have not been able to get the FIRST button to appear on the toolbar on the laptop even though I was able to get it on my desktop.

Thats the update I've been installing and the FIRST button doesn't show up. I get all of the WPILib files and the cRIO image but not the FIRST button. It works on my desktop but not on the laptop we use for programming.

Last year we had more problems with this. There are half a dozen threads on chief delphi about the missing FIRST menu but I can't recall what fixed it for us.

I want to say it may have been a 32bit/64bit mismatch.

Are you running 64 bit or 32 bit?

When I setup a new computer today I only did the first disk. No LabView and then installed the update and all was well.

You might try deleting everything again. Run a registry cleaner like CCleaner and then do the install. Or go through the registry searching for Windriver and deleting entires associated with it and do the install again.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.

That's ok. What I've found out though is that the FIRST menu is installed perfectly but it doesnt appear when I use the 2nd account named Team 263 on the laptop. It only appears on one account which is the driver account. It's a bit of an inconvenience but its fine. Thanks for your help and Good Luck!

Figured this out, your post hinted the solution to me. If you go into your user profile (C:\Users\Username) and delete the .workbench* folder. Restart windriver and it will ask for your workspace again. Then it will recreate the folder and preferences and include the FIRST tab.

I deleted the .workbench* folder but it didn't work for me. I even reinstalled the Workbench update again and it still didn't work. But just for the heck of it, I decided to install the Workbench update again differently and this time it worked. I don't know if it is related but here it is. Instead of double clicking the workbench update exe, I opened an elevated CMD and then just run the workbench update there. Then it worked. The "First" menu showed up and everything is fine now.
