Multiple Pneumatic systems
Can you have a separate pneumatic system, in order to keep certain components filled, as long as you pre-fill it with the same compressor?
E.G. A drive train with pneumatic components isolated from other pneumatic systems. |

as long as you have a regulator, and a pressure gauge for each system, i think that would be legal, but dont take my word for it, i would check the Q&A first.

You can and should ask the GDC. I think it might possible, but weird. Weird because you can't have check valves, and R89 means your one and only release valve has to dump all or most of the air out of the system.
First, R89 says THE pressure vent plug must be connected so that it releases all stored pressure. If stored means stored in storage tanks, then this is possible. If R89 means all air pressure on the robot, then you won't be able to have a "separate" system. This is the question you'll need to ask the GDC. Assuming R89 only means air stored in tanks, then here's how you could slightly separate a valve/system from another one. If you put a solenoid valve (V1) upstream of the valve/system you want to isolate (V2), then you can open/close V1 to isolate V2 from the air pressure of the rest of the system. This only means that V2 won't lose pressure even if the rest of the system does. Since you can't have storage capacity past V1, you won't be able to toggle V2 to operate a new cylinder because you likely won't have enough stored air to move anything. Whether or not this is useful is something you'll have to decide yourself. |
