77 new teams?

I have been gone awhile but i always look in this time of year. I just saw this - http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2014/01/...-state-in-u-s/ - It speaks of 77 new teams in michigan. Is this article right. How did this happen? I hope it is not a one time start-up thing. The only thing worse then not taking part in FRC would be told you can't do it next year.

I believe the number is 93 according to the FIRST website, but here is the reason for the huge jump in teams in this thread..

Are they all new FRC teams or FTC teams as well?

Michigan has 56 86 (thanks Allison!) new FRC teams at this point (including 3886 a "new" veteran sibling to team 3767).

Re: 77 new teams?

FIRST in Michigan has been remarkably good at promoting the start of new teams. This year they contacted local teams to ask to help mentor those news teams - we've been in touch with a number of the new teams around us to help.

As always, the real trick is not starting a FIRST team. That part is easy. The hard part is long-time retention. Even well-known teams fail. FIRST is a very difficult endeavor over the long term unless you've been very lucky in terms of sponsorship.

Hey Mark,

What data source are you using? I'm seeing about 85 MI rookies using the old search tool here.

Re: 77 new teams?

That entry still lists 55 rookies.
Rookie team numbers start at 4900.

There's a second page that lists 30 more teams :) The system can only show a max of 250 results per page, so it's getting cut off at team 5216. The highest MI rookie number is 5316.

Silly me.
I've never had to switch to a second page for a state before :)
