2014 Ball Compression

This is a thread for teams to post their results for how much their ball compresses. I would like to know about how much it is compressing for most teams. Thanks!

With a 3d object, it is not as easy as "this is how much you should compress the ball" like it was with frisbees.

What matters, is how much you change the internal pressure on the ball.
So, A single wheel can compress the ball to a smaller diameter than a long roller because it has less contact area.

All that being said:
Our prototypes ranged from 2 to 8 inches. But you are best off making a prototype, or designing something that can adjust the compression easily.

OR, look into using gas shocks. The rule of thumb is to compress with 3-4 times the weight of the ball. A quick search for should clear up any confusion. (I particularly like 1902's 2008 bot)

Thanks for this! I was just really looking to see how much variation people are getting. We have made a prototype single wheel intake but haven't really been able to gather much info from it due to the poor construction of it. I hope to be making a second prototype that is more robust.
