Control system Zip Tied

we have a plastic, milk crate like layer that the electronics sit on. We have the PDB, CRio, and motor controllers zipped to the plastic. we also have the wires zip tied to create a nice clean path. is there any issue with zip ties on the control system it holds very nicely. i couldn't find any rules on it.
Thanks!

There are no rules against it. Personally, I would be a little concerned about the cRio... that's a fairly heavy (and expensive!) item to be held on only with zip ties - I'd be concerned that the zip ties would break and let it bounce around inside your robot.

The CRio actually has two toggle bolts on it currently and then zip ties on the side. Thanks for your help!

We've used industrial strength Velcro for years....

We also use a lot of velcro because swapping out components on the fly is a no brainer, this way! Next would be to make docking connectors so you just place the component down and it's wired up!

There's just something about strapping my electronics with velcro that gives me a horrible feeling.

I'm sure it works, but it seems sort of crude to me. Not refined. Incomplete. Lacking elegance.

For all intensive purposes, I'm sure it works and works fine - and swapping is probably nice - but I like my electronics board pretty :)

Instead of doing something like that to swap parts quickly, you could just add on extras of vital parts that need little work to be changed out (motor controllers come to mind). For other stuff like the PDB, DS, and cRIO, you'd be spending a lot of time detaching all of the wires in the first two cases and well... I wouldn't velcro on a cRIO and just roll with it.

It is personal preference, but I like bolting down electronics.

We have used tywraps exclusively for the cRio and other electronics. Let's face it they are insulated. However, small tywraps are not appropriate and more than one set is required. The cRio should not move when you push it from side to side. If you have empty slots, pass a set of tywraps through the holes of the unused slot to be sure the cRio doesn't move.

Actually, vecro works quite well and also looks quite elegant because everything is behind the part. I think it is nice to relocate a part while you are trying to troubleshoot it. Also, our team uses bolts for the cRIO. We use zip ties to tie the DS to the cRIO :D

Velcro can be very elegant if you do it correctly. Everything all the electronics in the attached image are velcroed down. Wiring isn't the best, but it's no less elegant than bolts, but so much more convenient.

This was 907's 2013 robot.
