Powering solenoids
 
Would it be legal to connect/wire two solenoids to one digital input if we were using two solenoids at the same time?

Yes it would be but what would be the point of wiring your solenoid to a digital Input?

If you were asking if you can wire 2 solenoid valves to one output of the solenoid breakout, the answer is no per r51.

<R51> Each power regulating device may control electrical loads per Table 4-4. Unless otherwise noted, each power regulating device may control one and only one electrical load.

Would it necessarily be an electrical load? It's just a signal with an insignificant power use.

Hmm, I wouldn't classify it as a signal since the output is directly driving the solenoid.

However, the solenoid breakout is not listed as a power regulating device under r50. But multiple devices per output isn't explicit in r51.

As I read it now it would be okay.

Can someone else provide clarification or does this need to go to the Q&A?

After the chart in R51, it says:
*Multiple low-load, pneumatic solenoid valves, electric solenoids or CUSTOM CIRCUITS may be connected to a single relay module. This would allow one (1) relay module to drive multiple pneumatic actions or multiple CUSTOM CIRCUITS. No other electrical load can be connected to a relay module used in this manner.


So as I see it, you can use multiple solenoids on one Spike relay, but the asterisk is not included on the solenoid breakout.

So if it is a 12v solenoid you are okay, if it is 24v you are out of luck.

But R51 only prohibits connecting more than one device to the output of a power regulating device from r50, the solenoid breakout is not included in r50.

But it is included in the chart found in r51. And also, nowhere does r51 reference r50. R51 only points to table 4-4, which is listed within r51.

Except when it mentions power regulating devices for actuators which a pneumatic solenoid does not seem to fall under the category of actuator, only electrical load. So for the OP, I changed my mind again. I would go with no and ask Q&A.

Are these two solenoids for a similar use? You could just use T fittings to split the tubing to run multiple cylinders off of one valve
