How do the 100:1 ratio vex planetary gearboxes work?

My team is looking at using the vex planetary gearboxes to move our shooter arm, but I can't figure out how the two 10:1 ratios combine. Anyone know.

You simply stack the two stages and use the longer set of screws to hold it together. Fairly straightforward.

There is also a user manual on the Versaplanetary page.
