2014 San Diego Regional

So I'm very excited about the match-ups for San Diego this year. This year San Diego has an incredibly balanced and leveled population of teams, so it's really anyone's game. The other thing I'm excited about is there are 14 teams going to both San Diego, and Las Vegas 5 weeks later. (987, 1266, 1538, 1572, 2102, 2339, 2485, 3009, 3011, 3255, 3476, 3965, 4160 and 4792)

So..yeah. Hype thread. I wonder how long the line will be for Chick Fil-A this year.

yeah pretty excited for it. Gonna be my first time at an FRC event so I don't know what to expect other than not having to sit in math class for 2 days.

Re: 2014 San Diego Regional

The San Diego Regional is great first regional to go to. Being a week 2 regional most teams haven't found very good strategies yet, or aren't at full working capacity, so if your team has a good robot it will be easy to spot you.

Also 330, 987, and 1538 are going, so you'll have a couple of allstars to look up to. Sometimes 254, 341, and 1717 come as well.

Re: 2014 San Diego Regional

Don't forget about 3476, Code Orange. They won the San Diego regional in 2012 and were the Newton Division Winners at Championships last year, making it onto Einstein!

San Diego is a great regional; can't wait!

Question to the guys who are going:
have you guys had enough practice to know what you're doing with your robot?

Re: 2014 San Diego Regional

We finished all of the mechanisms on our robot mid week 5, and we had our driver practicing since then. One of our mentors claimed he has "Too much practice" at this point

Too much? Impossible! ;)

+1

You cannot practice too much. :)

I have never felt so good about changing wheels/tread before we bag a robot. Too much practice is a myth.

This will be only the 2nd San Diego Regional the Robodox have missed since 2007 - it is always one of the very best events anywhere! Good luck to all the teams competing in our traditional "home away from home" regional.

2 days left before we all see each other (at least for those attending :D)
Looks like a lot of intakes are gonna be broken though, as revealed from Week 1.

Yes, it will be hosted by us. It should be in good quality, we've been looking to improve on that actually.

The call was a G32 violation. Human players are not allowed to deflect opponents' balls as a strategy; apparently one of the red alliance HPs did just that with a red ball.

That's what was announced, at any rate.

Good job to the winners!
Had a lot of fun, good music (except for "the fox" and "gangnam style", ugh), and overall learned a lot about organization. We knocked over a robot on accident, and that was about the greatest thing to happen to our team haha.

Gary, do you only have videos of the Code Orange matches or did you film everything? I noticed you did something similar with Inland Empire and San Diego last year. I appreciate the documentation.

I posted all 26 matches I shot in San Diego. Usually I shoot every Qualification Match with team 980, ThunderBots, or team 3476, Code Orange, and every Elimination Match regardless of who is in it. Occasionally I shoot a match with a team whose robot we want to closely watch and re-watch. Like we want to pick them or find a way to defeat them. I would post the match if I had it.
By the way, congratulations on your win. We are happy with our pick of team 1538, Holy Cows, but team 330, BeachBots, was right there in the picking discussion, too. Glad you got them. :)

Re: 2014 San Diego Regional

I'll try to keep this short, but it won't be easy :p

This is 3476 Code Orange's fourth time attending the 2014 San Diego regional, ever since our rookie year in 2011. Although we aren't local, we love to consider it our "Home Regional." As always, the atmosphere, energy, and teams involved were absolutely awesome.

FIRST of all, big shout-out to our eliminations alliance partners 1538 and 4574. You two were the best partners we could have asked for, and we came within one match to defeating the eventual regional champions. It was an honor to play with the newest HoF inductee: You guys have an awesome robot and a truly amazing team. Congrats on your Innovation in Control award, and we look forward to playing with you in Las Vegas. This is our first time we have had the privilege to work with The Average Joe's, and all of 3476 was impressed with your spirit and enthusiasm. You are a great team on and off the field - the Gracious Professionalism Award was well-deserved.

To our semi-finals opponents (and regional winners!) 1266, 330 4583 and 4486. You guys had both awesome strategy and outstanding driving. 3476 is busy making improvements for Vegas based on what we have learned :D And to the #1 seeded alliance 987, 2485 and 3250 - we have the utmost respect for your teams, and we are very excited to play again with the WARLords and the HighRollers in a few weeks.

On another note, huge thanks to our friends on 3255. Thanks for helping us with scouting and statistics both on Friday night and throughout the week - Code Orange always learns tons from your wisdom and strategy.

And finally: Code Orange won the Regional Chairman's Award at the San Diego regional. We would like to thank all of the team members, alumni, mentors, sponsors, partners and supporters who have made this achievement possible, and all of the other FIRST teams who have helped us improve and grow over the past four years. And a special thanks to Cathy and the rest of the team on 1538, the Holy Cows, for helping us with our RCA presentation before and during the regional - we couldn't have done it without you. You guys are a class act, and your status in the Hall of Fame is so well deserved.

Thanks to the San Diego community, and we are looking forward to competing in Las Vegas and at the World Championships in St. Louis!

FRC 3476, Code Orange
