Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
Thirty matches in and average points are running in the low 140s, compared to the mid-80s in the district events. Wow! Hats off to everybody for dialing in their 'bots, and I guess this is what happens when everyone team is above average! I really look forward to watching some of the matches!
I am impressed that OPR has picked 22 of 30 winners so far! My plus/minus system is only at 17 of 30, which is close enough to 50/50 to be humbling. And even where the two systems pick the same winner, the OPR almost does as well on its own. Of course, with the better pool of teams and the higher scores, past data is understandably a questionable predictor of future performance! Congratulations to 716 and the other teams that are strong out of the gate! Hope tomorrow is a great day for all, Dan H. |

Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
Been rooting for 177, and their alliance's play has been pretty solid so far. I still can't believe they haven't made champs since that unfortunate Einstein finals in 2011—a team like Bobcat not making champs two years in a row still boggles my mind.
EDIT: See you in St. Louis, 177! |
Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
Big congratulations to the winning alliance of 230, 177, and 4055! You guys dominated those elimination matches!

Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
Finally home from an incredibly fun event!
Thanks to our alliance partners 172 and 2067. You guys were so fun to play with and we almost took down that powerhouse 1 seed! Congrats to 2067 for reaching champs, I love your team and am glad to see you qualify. 195, 558, 5122- thanks for some fun matches in quarters! You guys were all great teams and I'd love to play with you all in the future, very gracious teams. 1735- thank you guys so much for the spare mecanum wheels! You guys really saved the event for us. Glad to see you guys win EI! 3467 and 1519- pleasure competing against our Granite State Companions. Great teams as always, glad to see you both qualify. Also if anyone has pictures or videos from the event, posting links here would be appreciated! |

Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
This event was run incredibly well.
We got through all 106 (!) qual. matches without falling behind schedule. If we did, it was not noticeable. Blair and all his game announcers did a remarkable job keeping the audience informed and entertained throughout the matches. The head referee did a phenomenal job announcing fouls; he clearly stated which team got the foul and what they did to receive it, something that proved to be very useful to our team. The VIP seats for scouting were extremely useful, as they provided an excellent view of the field and allowed convenient use of electrical outlets. We look forward to attending this event next year. |
Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
Everyone should make sure to say thank you to Kim Eckhardt for her amazing leadership and dedication in running a great event!
I was really proud of the incredible accomplishments of many New England teams, students, mentors, and volunteers that were showcased this weekend. Congratulations to all! |
Re: [NE FIRST] 2014 New England Championship!
Also just back,
What a great event – The NE districts have been fantastic, and the level of play at the champs was amazing, great game flow while also tough defense (lots of bent metal), just the way we like it here. Off the field everyone became that much closer. Great fun to get more acquainted with the northern NE teams especially our 8th alliance members 1058 and 172, you guys were great to partner with, and we had fun putting a little scare into our great friends 558, 195 and the great rookie team 5122. Also, congratulations to our other CT friends 230, 177 and 4055 for their win. Apple Pi (2067) is also deeply honored to be selected for one of the four Chairman’s awards, something the students have worked hard on, but with all the other amazing teams in the district never expected to get this soon, and great job by the other Chairman’s winners 2648, 78 and 811, its an honor to be in your company. A special shout out to Sandra Brino, of 195, for Woody Flowers award – very well deserved. I know she is proud to see that there are 13 CT teams eligible to attend St. Louis! Now we just need to figure out how to get there. Districts are living up to their promise here – thanks to the volunteers, organizers and great teams. |
