Flags
For teams with flags, do you make them yourselves, or do you have some company make them? Any insight into the flag-making process would be great! (We're an FTC team interesting in standing out with a flag.)

Re: Flags
There's a huge variety-- I've seen everything from flags made out of felt to elaborately sewn accented flags with what looks like a half-dozen different fabrics.
My main advice would be to plan your flag out before you make it. If anyone on your team has parents or relatives who like to sew, it can be a great way to get them interested in working with the team. Plan for travel, display, and use. Don't use weak fabrics if you plan on waving it around a lot and know the rules regarding displays at events you attend. Also, large flags are HEAVY. Sure they look cool, but if nobody on your team can wave your 50-pound 6x10 flag, it has failed its purpose. Come into it with the same care you (hopefully) put into your robot-- planning, design requirements, a budget, and everything. A durable and long-lasting flag is an investment in your team's image. |
