The perks of having a not-classroom to work in. If only!

Looks great! Well done.

Just yesterday we got a local landlord to donate this space in Northern Virginia through April:

We are setting up our practice field next weekend along the same lines as you guys. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially if you happened to have plans or a BOM (beyond what FIRST provides).

How long did it take you to get this far? About how much did you spend on wood?

Also, we want to simulate the plexiglass on the driver's station but actual plexiglass seems prohibitively expensive. What are your plans there?

This is the first time we've attempted to build a practice field since we operate out of a school, but this year's field seemed simple enough to give it a shot. We're also building two bots for the first time so this will help motivate the team.

You don't want Plexiglass anyway -- it's not hard to shatter it with a sharp impact. The material used for the Alliance Station "glass" is polycarbonate (e.g. Lexan), not acrylic. It's used as bulletproof glass.

Polycarbonate is even more expensive than acrylic, so you probably don't want it ether. Our old practice field ten years ago used something I think is called hardware cloth. It was a metal mesh with wide square openings, on the order of 3/4". I don't recall whether it was welded at the intersections or not.

Mark,

Does the green reflection interfere with your vision recognition?

Team 2826: Are you going to open it up for other teams to practice? Are you holding a Week Zero Scrimmage? If you are, please post the details in this thread as well: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=125139

Nice looking field, by the way!

It looks like you have a bunch of equipment in the background. Do you have machining capabilities on site? Looks like a great work space.

Wow.... I wish we had the space for a full field this year. Nice job guys, and see you at the competition.

We haven't had any issues with vision as far as I am aware. I think the green you see in the photo is just from the camera Mark used.

Yes we have a mini lathe, and a router table as well as a smattering of other typical small shop tools/machines.

If you would still like a BOM, and some potential assembly drawings to help you build your field I can try to put something together today. Just let me know where you would like me to send those to.
