That would be awesome!! But for some reason, I have a feeling that a mass of thousands of people huddled around to ride the segway may get out of hand. It may cause a whole bunch of problems and such. So, I doubt it. But, it won't stop me from hoping. :)

If they had a display where people could wait in line and have 2 minutes in a boxed in area to ride segway, the line would stretch for miles.... also here is a possible situation if they let people ride segway:

" <Insert Name> is in the pit looking for the scouting team, so (he/she) can get the scouting report for the next match...but to (his/her) surprise, the entire scouting team is in line to ride Segway and the report on the team was never done....."

That would really annoy me

The only thing I am worried about is team members "Disappearing" off to ride segway and neglecting the real reason they are at the championship...

Don’t you agree?

The ultimate test

The pit area at Nationals could be the ultimate test of the viability of mixing Segways with other types of traffic, such as pedestrians and robots on carts. I can't think of many places where you have more people packed together in an area trying to move a few hundred feet.

If each team could have two Segways at Nationals for their team members' use as they see fit, we could check out the concept of mixing the machines and pedestrians in close to a worst case situation.

That may work, but if they set Segway up as a "carnival" ride that would be a problem....Segway at nationals would be a really good test in the Pits....it gets really busy in there...

Do you really think that has not happened in previous years; team members going off to the parks or somewhere else while others are busy at work in the pits or playing the game?? As long as there is something else to do at nationals besides play the game and be a spectator I don't see the probability of the whole team staying where they should be to support the team!

It is unfortunate in the overall team spirit factor, but it has and will continue to happen, no doubt about that!!

That's very true. And having a segway available to try would only make this worse and a whole lot more crowded. I think this would cause way too many problems to allow people to try it out. Could you even imagine the amount of people that would be trying to get on one of these things??

But, if it was integrated into the teams and we were able to use them that way, that would be gerat. But, with 2 per team, that's a whole lot of segways.

i know for a fact that people have snuck off into parks, and I know that most of the team is off somewhere besides the field..

lets just say that when a new "mysterious" invention that the whole world has been watching for over a year is alowing anyone to ride for free if they wait in line...you probably would do it.....im just saying that EPCOT behind the field is a big temptation and Dean is smart enough to realize that Segway would be a huge temptation away from nationals...think about it...

Well, on one hand, you'll always know where most of your team is. :) But yeah, I'm sure Dean is smart enough to know the chaos it would cause. Hmm...EPCOT and Segway...talk about temptation. Though, at a robotics competition, I have this feeling, segway would win that one.
