So you just freely swap between mechanum and normal wheels?

That's pretty cool. Team 1699 is working on a drivetrain like that, but nothing that fancy.

3663 also has a similar design, but we are only running 2 traction wheels that are 6" for more torque.

Could you explain what you mean by this?

He may mean they only have two octocanum modules? That way the first set of wheels (probably mechanum) don't shift and the wheels in back do. I'm also sort of confused by what he means.

Or maybe he just means that they're going with mecanum.

 But he states that they're using traction wheels.

I think he means that they're using Two 6 inch traction wheels per side. I think the "similar design" that he was referring to is in the shooter and pick-up mechanism, not necessarily the drive train.

Seriously none of this helps. Clearly no one has any concrete idea what he's talking about, which is why I asked him to expand.

And so the mystery of the two traction wheel octocanum continues...

or would it be a sextacanum? If he is actually talking about having only 2 traction wheels

From the CAD drawing, it looks as though only two of the traction wheels are powered. Also, two of them appear to be smaller than the others. Perhaps that is what OP meant?

That was in response to zinthorne, not the OP.
