Pit Size
Does anyone know how big pits roughly are this year. I know they are slightly diffrent at every competition but i have no clue. But more specifically for competitions in the New England District, but any info is appreciated.

Re: Pit Size
In general, most pits sizes are as defined in section 4.8.2.3 of the 2014 FRC Game Manual.
But, always plan for smaller |
Re: Pit Size
Too small, no matter how big they are.

Re: Pit Size
No matter how big they are it is always not big enough for the team.

Re: Pit Size
Pits are usually about 10x10 ft
You're given a table that's probably about 5 feet long at 2 1/2 feet wide at the regional, but you have the choice of taking it out. |
Re: Pit Size
Since you will be at district events you need to contact the people running the district to see what will be available at your events. Since they are held at various locations the size may vary from event to event. I'm certain that the will try to give 10x10 pits but based on space they may be smaller or sized slightly differently say 9x11.

Re: Pit Size
By the book, 10' x 10'. In practice, you will find that it will be +/- up to a couple of feet in either dimension.

The districts we are going to in CT this year are 10x9

Re: Pit Size
We are planning for a minimum of 8'x8'. That's smaller than in the past but our mid-Atlantic regionals are tight this year, specifically the DC Regional at GMU. Contact your regional coordinators for specifics.
That's tough for us because we have an upgraded pit design that was originally planned around 10'x10' last fall. Just have to make it more flexible this year. |

Corollary to Parkinson's law with regard to pit space - the team will expand to fill whatever space is allotted. (and the aisles will suffer)
I wish I could convince more of our team that they have seen enough of our own robot and they should be spending more time bugg... er observing how the other teams' pit crews are doing. They might even make some friends and learn some robotics. |
"If you are part of our team, and are not either part of the pit crew, strategy coordination team, or informing us of food delivery, you should not be in/around our pit. "

You have 3 Chairman's presenters, 1/2 Programmers, 3/4 Drivers/Pit Crew, 1 Safety Captain, and then 1 or two strays, that's 12 people, not including 2/3 mentors in a 10x10' space. But, that's part of the challenge, you got to make it work. We write a detailed schedule indicating where everyone should be at any point during the day. We schedule only the essential people to be in the pit, with the rest being politely asked to stay away. |
