Judges Information Page January 9th?
 

I thought I'd start a new thread here since I got confused when searching and posted in last year's thread. Apparently I missed the deadline for submitting the Judge's Information page in TIMS, which was January 9th. We're supposed to build a robot in 6 weeks but apparently it takes 8 weeks to print out a summary page for each team in the regional. And also, somehow 5 days after kickoff we're supposed to describe our robot and game strategy and discuss the most significant challenge we've overcome.

In TIMS, it says we can submit Judges Information and a robot photo through April 28; I guess we're supposed to have a photo of our robot by January 9th also?? The due date is nowhere in the Communications section of the Admin manual, even though an entire numbered paragraph is dedicated to its existence. Forgive me if I don't see every date in every item of every email blast or hunt through the website to see what's on the calendar every day.

I'm more than a little perturbed.

I was confused by this as well (well more accurately my coach was), but it's ridiculous if they're asking us to have robot photos and a strategy summary by day 4. I barely understood the rules by day 4, much less had a coherent strategy.

We are also looking for the date, which typically had been about 1 week after bag and tag.

You can still enter essays.

Where did you find the Jan.9th date?

so i see on the FRC calendar where the jan 9th came from. but i thought that was for the team profile and i thought that was used for the event program books.

so does anyone know when the team essays and robot picture are due? has to be before april 28th..

Team Profile Information in TIMS: Team profile information is used for program books that are distributed to visitors, VIPs and teams at events. This information will be exported from your team’s TIMS profile on Thursday, 1/9/14. To update your team’s information, your team’s Main or Alternate Contact must:
•Login to TIMS https://my.usfirst.org/frc/tims/site.lasso;
•Under “Teams I can Administer”, click the Team Summary button for your team;
•In the Team Profile section, click on the edit/view buttons to update team information.

Judges’ Information Section in TIMS: Please be sure to update your information in the "Judge's Info" on the Team Summary page in TIMS. The information listed here will be put into a Team Yearbook for the Judges to review at your event(s). The Judges will be reading this information in order to get to know your team better! Judges’ information will be exported from TIMS on Thursday, 1/9/14.

So thank you for directing me to the December email blast. It's there all right, we missed it.

I have posted the question to FIRST Forums, no answer yet, to see if we can get any relief on the date.

But I have to wonder, how many other teams missed the date?

When the Awards Sub-team mentor does not have access to TIMS in order to update information the team, stuff like this gets missed easily. We'll update the information anyway on Saturday.

Team 980 lead mentor should be fired for missing this critical deadline.

Oh, I forgot...there is no exit strategy from FIRST. :(

Seems like a strange date, so close to Kick-Off.

I believe the confusion is the description in what is actually due on January 9th.

In the past, we didnt have to submit a robot photo and judges information until later. As I checked TIMS just now, you can still input that information.

I believe what is actually due on January 9th is the info you put as your team name and your sponsors/partners as it is printed in the regional pamphlet for each respective regional.

I recall in 2011 when we signed up for and paid after early January in deciding to do the Las Vegas regional. As a result, we were never in the regional booklet even though we participated.
Vice versa, I have seen teams in booklets that never officially attended as they bailed out after the early January date.

We're in the same boat with the rest of you. This seems like a mistake on FIRST's part. No one would have a robot photo by that date.

I guess if no one's entry is taken, the judges just have less information to use. We'll plan to bring a hard copy to events just in case.

Team 1511 completed the submission on time and we used a very generic robot strategy description, which we plan to update when the robot photo is available. We thought the deadline was odd, but since we had time to react, we did.

What we failed to notice until almost too late was that the Entrepreneur Award required an completely different input method and that the Chairman's Exec Summary had a whole new sequence of questions. When did those changes happen? :yikes:

You are welcome to pass any documentation and handouts to the blue shirts in the pits. Those deadlines for the Judges Info page do seem a bit odd. If you like the format of the Judges Info/Team Profile page - than use that.
Otherwise - whatever works for your team.
