2014 Webcasts

I started a Thread on the TBA forum but got very little traction.

Week 1 is right around the corner and we have Zero webcasts submitted on TBA.

Please submit your webcast on TBA,
http://www.thebluealliance.com/webcasts

There are updated instructions on how to webcast if you need help.
http://www.thebluealliance.com/record

If there is not a webcast for your event posted, please ask your regional coordinator or reply to the thread.

This link is working for Alamo - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/south-...c-championship

TBA is currently looking at [{"type": "ustream", "channel": "7352004"}] trying to figure out what's the correct channel, and if it's something code related or it's just an incorrect channel. http://www.thebluealliance.com/webcasts

Well you can add more than one. I'm pretty sure the TBA guys manually add links after reviewing them. I submitted the correct link, and also shot off an email to the dev group so we'll see if Greg or whomever has access to the database can actually go in and manual switch the links. I miss not seeing match scores at the bottom, and all the other features of TBA (I also wanna watch central illinois as well).

Hopefully, someone will give an update soon.

Our team, 1678 Citrus Circuits, ran the Inland Empire webcast (on short notice). We've been asked to run the Sacramento Regional webcast as well. What did you think of it? Was it of sufficiently better quality than the usual web feed? How was the screen layout (which we are changing)?

We know about the audio feed issue, and we can't be hooked up to the FMS for official scoring. (We shadow the live scoring.)

Thanks for any feedback.

Currently, the audio on your #1 feed is just a loud 60Hz hum.
Also, the nearest low goals are out of frame.

The MC microphone on feed #2 needs turned down. (Hub city)
1) The MC's voice is incredibly distorted.
2) The mic clearly pics up the nearby volunteers conversations. They are ripping on the teams playing pretty viciously.

feed #1 still has the 60 Hz hum in the audio.

Whoever is doing the Glacier Peak webcast deserves a medal. The video quality from that webcast must be 720p+ and it's streaming at 35+fps for the most part. At times the quality is better than the championships webcasts. All we're missing is a fisheye lens and they'd have the best webcast setup in the world.

Thanks! I'll pass your praise along to the rest of the video crew. The entire A/V production is being run by high school students from 2910, 1983 and 1318, including the A/V switching and technical direction. A lot of credit goes to Kevin Ross and the fine folks at FIRSTWA who helped get the equipment setup figured out and secured access to the high speed internet at all of the venues.

For reference, we are streaming 720p 30fps from a Matrox Monarch hardware encoder. Here's a picture of two of the equipment setup from Auburn Mountainview last weekend:

Thanks! That means a lot to all of us. We saw this post earlier in the day and found it awesome to think that we are killing it out there. We ran into almost no technical difficulties throughout the day with ONLY STUDENTS on board. The job is a ton of fun and it's awesome that the people at home like what we are doing.

We were joking about getting my fisheye on a RED or a C300 for awesome wide shots of the field, but we have neither of those and no camcorder that we can think of out there is built with a fisheye lens. If you know of one I would love to hear about it.

Likewise, we really appreciate the compliments. I was the technical director for the event, and I was so happy to see us run so smoothly. Massive props for FIRSTWA for helping with all the networking required for the AV system, and thank you Glacier Peak High School for giving us a nice and open network so we could stream in perfect 720p.

I also want to commend the PNW districts for their amazing webcast quality. The fact that high school students can put on a much better live stream than NASA at some events is incredible.

Hey Martin, you are absolutely correct and the NASA guys have been the backbone of broadcasting this regional since 1998 when we were out at Kennedy Space Center.

The NASA team, our RoboShow team, and the RoboVision On Demand crews all work together with support of the regional committee at the Orlando regional. We have shared crew support, cameras, and other gear to allow us to aim for 3 different "goals". The NASA guys are providing an all-day webcast all 3 days of the in venue feed that teams have grown to love over years, RoboVision On Demand is mixing and archiving videos to support team scouting and for teams to use later for fundraising purposes, and RoboShow's goal is to create sports-show like coverage Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon both as a form of mentoring students on teams as well as for people to share with those "new" to FIRST to help explain what is happening.

It's pretty annoying that in 2014, despite the existence of several websites designed to make this problem go away, I still need to have like 5 browser tabs open to watch the streams I am interested in.

Both the redalliance and the blueallaiance are linking to the roboshow. I guess those guys get something for number of watches, but it is frustrating and misleading that they are claiming to be the regional webcast but are not.

TBA and TRA: please fix your links!

The link to the Orlando webcast is:

WOW. The quality on the FLOR webcast!

I have been having a ton of trouble with the Dallas stream. Stream seems to go down every twenty seconds and then randomly start working again.

Anyone else getting really low FPS, like under 30, and definitely less than 720p when watching? I'm sure that it isn't my connection, but I'm not sure how the number of people watching right now could affect playback. I love the number of angles they have though. They literally put a camera in every angle that you could think of, this is probably the biggest + they have over other streams.

The resolution is fine, but the camera angles dancing every 5-10 seconds. It's exceptionally annoying.

You can watch all the Howell matches here.. that's what I do.

https://www.youtube.com/user/FIRSTinMichigan/videos

The matches are uploaded soon after each ends. Just refresh that page every once in a while.

The Chestnut Hill webcast on TBA is incorrectly linked to a recording. This is the correct webcast link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PKGGCu7VKc

I've given up on the FLOR webcast. Two to three matches before 624 the webcast drops then comes up right after their match ends. This is the same thing that happened to them at Alamo. Kind of suspicious.

Livestream says: "The owner of this Event does not have access to Embed the Live Player"

I wish people would just stick to Ustream, Justin, or Twitch... Livestream is sometimes okay, but the smaller streaming sites that don't allow embedding makes life difficult. :(

And I noticed while watching GameSense that someone got FIRST Robotics added to the Twitch database of games (at least I don't think you can manually add one), adding it to the list of "not quite video games" (like MtG) that appear to be fine to stream on Twitch now.

Being more than video games doesn't make you a video game. Twitch will usually crack down on streams they deem not to be video game or gaming related (see the PS4 Playroom incident). But, since FIRST Robotics has an entry in their "now playing" list, I assume we're all good.

That's not a problem with Livestream, it's that the users didn't purchase the correct level. All three of those above are fine, but require logins or have ads, and the reason why we forked the money over was that the experience was top notch. Plus, we found the month-by-month full rate for a few months was cheaper than the nonprofit rate (which required an annual plan), so we'll drop down to a lower channel after we grab all the video.

NE FIRST got picked up by Livestream yesterday as a featured channel and we had over 3000 unique visitors on Thursday alone. They also promo'd us on twitter and somehow 80/20's twitter picked up on it too...yesterday was a pretty good day.

Streams of the Magic: the Gathering card game seem to do pretty well on Twitch, so I don't think their policy is that strict.
