Our team just watched this and we were Amazed by your team's pre-planning/CAD for your back plates. Infrared looks awesome.

It's one way to get mecanums on to Einstein...

Thank you, you should notice several 610 helpful hints on this bot (pneumatic tubing handles, Velcro around the battery Anderson connector, etc.)

Also I forgot to mention, the competition robot will have 4 MiniCIMs added to the drive train at our first event. We are just keeping them on the prototype robot for practice.

One question, are the 4 inch mecanum wheels on the intake using the 4 inch rollers or the 6 inch rollers?

6in rollers with custom 3D printed purple hubs. We figure we shouldn't waste the real wheels or rollers. We have friends that may run into wheel problems later in the season and we'll be able to help them out with the real wheels. We also can use the proper rollers for future prototype robots or something.

Yea, i was just wondering if you guys found that using non round wheels actually allowed you to get more grip on the ball.

Hands down the most impressive reveal video so far. Absolutely phenomenal. That intake has immediately made me question our design.

It's funny it only happened because we broke a roller when driving on them and we're annoyed, so we thought we would beat them up a bit with the collector. Turns out it works really well.

Also the power of the 775s help, if we had a lower back panel the collector would launch the ball a good 8 feet or so at full speed.

Someone could have zip tied a mecanum wheel on their robot during the practice match on Einstein last year...just saying...

This is probably my favorite reveal video so far. Short, action packed and showed off a lot of cool and useful features.

just make sure not to shoot it on the truss in a match, or you will never be able to score again.

I love the intake a the way you hold the ball in, but is there a sensor on the robot that senses the ball when it comes into the robot or does the driver need to manually press a button? We are using a sensor, but I'm wondering if it is easy enough to just press a button.

We have both systems running.

The driver holds the bumper (button above the trigger on an Xbox controller) during collection. If he lets go collection stops, collection also stops when the IR range finder senses the ball. Most of the time the driver is able to get it before the ball reaches the sensor but when they are blind to the ball and 54 ft away hopefully the sensor will take over.

Our code is on github, it's by no means competition ready, we still have 3 weeks till our first competition.

There are many details in your design that are worthy of study, in person. The video and photos are very nice but don't do Infrared justice.

This robot can do it all!

Every time I look at that intake, I think of our VEX intake rollers for this year's game Toss Up.:)

Yeah. Toss up was a smaller version of this, but different.

The original design came from our Toss Up robot, we saw Boom Done's and we realized it could be better with wheels.

I could probably find the answer by looking on their blog, but I'm going to hazard a guess for fun.

I'm going to say, 12. 4 CIM + 4 MiniCIM for the drivetrain. 2x 775s for the intake. 2x [insert 500 series motor here] for the catapult. A 13th if you count the motor inside the compressor.

Close but the catapult is a lot stronger than that. 2 CIMs + 2 775s. We didn't show our deep ball in the video but we can just about make an 18 ft shot. Its not reliable enough right now for competition but if everything goes well it might be ready for Lone Star or for the summer events.

Total motor count is 14 plus 8 pneumatic cylinders. I'm doing a battery order tomorrow. We got 6 new ones last year and are buying 6 more this year. The launcher also should only run for a grand total of 15-20 seconds a match.

The cylinders are a combined total 10" of stoke, so its not that epic.

Brilliant robot

I hope we get a chance to see this on the field.. preferably in St. Louis and on the same alliance.

absolutely magnificent robot

Re: Spectrum 3847: Infrared Reveal

Probably my favorite aspect of the robot design is the beautiful operator panel on the side for all the gauges and hookups. Half of the machine builders I work with haven't figured out that a programming port on an electrical panel is invaluable, and you guys have one on your robot.

Looking forward to some match footage of this competing.

They are just wrapped around the corners. After all the issues this season we ended up cutting about three times as many noodles as we needed since we weren't sure it would be legal, we cut them for vertical noodles first. We finally found out it was legal from Colin Fultz and went with the wrap around corners.

Our launcher was a little shaky at Dallas so we have been working on improving it's consistency. The team basically designed the change to a pneumatic launcher on the bus ride back to Houston. We prototyped yesterday and had it CADed and on the practice robot today making high goals.

Here is the blog post with video and pictures.

Inside Infrared: Collector

Re: Spectrum 3847: Infrared Reveal

Thanks for letting me come by and check out your robot today. It was quite impressive to see the amount of work you guys have put in. Your collectors are amazing piece of engineering, very elegant and simple, but they can handle the ball in ways I didn't think possible without a lateral joint.

Good luck and we will see you at Lone Star
