2014 Buckeye Regional
I noticed that there wasn't a thread for it so I figured I would start one as I'm giddy with anticipation for the regionals that we're going to. 3260 will be attending once again.

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
2252 will be there defending their title!!
|
Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
612 will be there also. We hope to see everyone at competition!

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
Can anybody comment on the pit area size at Buckeye? Will we get 10x10 or, like some venues, is it smaller than that? Thanks!

This is the first regional (and blue banner), that 846 has ever won. I'll let the team write up their thoughts later, but from an alumni perspective, it's so great to see you guys finally get this breakthrough! I know many alumni were watching, and we're all just so happy for you. Thanks to 910 for picking us, and 639 for rounding out an excellent alliance! |

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone at the Ohio Buckeye event. It was a blast! Everyone was so nice and fun to work with, and the reffing - starting right at the top with Dante was truly top-notch. Professional, kind, competitive, and considerate... that was Buckeye!
Thanks also to our terrific partners 846 and 639. We knew that you would be great complements to our robot and together when we were firing on all cylinders, we were a force to be reckoned with. The "Frozen Red Monkeys" from California to Michigan to New York would love to return to Ohio's warm and welcoming hospitality any day! Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
Does anyone have a link for a video archive of the Buckeye event?

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
I believe that we shot the same type of footage at Buckeye that we shot at Crossroads. If that's the case then the upload process has probably already started:

We are incredibly grateful that 910 still had enough faith in our ability to close the cycles to pick us up as the first selection, despite our nightmarish Saturday morning. Combined with 639's inbounding (who would have thought these guys would slip to the end . . .), we were incredibly happy to one point all day long. When we finally clicked as an alliance during the semifinals, we were one hell of a force. Winning our FIRST ever regional with the RedFunkyFreeze/FrozenRedMonkeys alliance was incredibly awesome. Thank you Buckeye for an amazing experience. We look forward to bringing our shooting back and improving our game for Silicon Valley and Championships! |
Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
Did anyone record the order of alliance selections?

I enjoyed watching the matches. I had guests visiting earlier in the day Saturday and told them I thought 910 was the best robot there. He asked if we could beat them. I said no. So our 1 point win to force quarter finals to a third game was extremely exciting! |

What I don't understand is why declining still brings such a reaction. As an alliance captain, they've earned the right to make their own choice. Either one is valid. |
Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
And clearly 694 did well for themselves by making their own decision, so kudos to them. After losing that second quarterfinal, I was getting a bit nervous that our chances at getting a regional win were going to slip through our fingers. Fortunately we rallied, hammered the bots back into shape, and came back . . . but that was close.

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
I had a great time at Buckeye and our team really walked away with one of the best regional experiences we have had in a very long time.
The refs were awesome, the 1126 crew plus Dante meant not having to worry about weird calls in a game that has had that issue at almost every level. We finished with 0 fouls on any of our alliances in the entire competition in large part due to how clear the refs were about anything and everything and how consistent they were on those calls. I think the reffing at Buckeye is something a lot of other regionals can look to to see how this game can be called properly. With regards to alliance selections I also just heard oooo more than anything and wasn't bothered at all and neither was our student on the field, I just hope 263 took no offense to our decline and understood that we were just trying to work what we thought was our best possible strategy. I had a blast this weekend and I hope 694 can cross paths with more of the teams from Buckeye in the future. Huge congrats to 846 who really earned their first win after years of deserving it, you guys were awesome all weekend long, 910 who we had so much fun playing with in our qualification match together, and 639 who was so kind as to help us out in quarter finals and lend us their spring scale even though we were playing against them. That's what I call playing the game the right way. You guys were awesome and it was a thrill to play against you. 303 and 4269, it was a short but wild ride. It was great playing with you guys and I am proud that our alliance was the only one to give the #1 alliance a loss. Also huge congrats to 217 on Chairman's, it was so much fun getting to play a match with such a legendary team. Your last shot in the last qualification match of the day is what put us over the edge to be alliance captain because of the 10 assist points that ball carried. |

A huge thank you to all of the teams as well, everyone was quick and efficient and really helped both days run smoothly and pretty much on schedule. Congratulations to everyone, but I have to give a special shout out to team 3504, the Girls of Steel, for their EI win which hasn't been mentioned yet. From what little I saw and the few people from the team I talked to, I can't imagine a more deserving group of people. You girls are an absolute inspiration to all other teams. In fact, a few of the mentors from my team were talking about moving to Pittsburgh because they wanted to come mentor you. Once again, thanks so much to everyone involved for putting on an awesome event, and making teams and volunteers from all over the country feel welcome down in Ohio. |

I understand that Chairman's is top dog, but EI is my favorite award, both for what it represents, and the reactions that result (usually shock, awe, and joy, in some combination and/or order). Girls of Steel - impressive skills, infectious enthusiasm. Congrats! -Karlis |

It's not at all a statement of disapproval; if anything it's the opposite. As in "ooh, this is going to get good". |
Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
Huge thanks to the Buckeye organizing committee.
In the past, there were issues, including problems with officiating, to the point where teams would avoid attending. The committee took the feedback to heart, made a great selection with Dante, and put on great regional. Well Done! -Karlis |

And to anyone thinking about moving to Pittsburgh -- I highly recommend it. It is a great place to live, and we can always use more mentors (both on Girls of Steel and on the many other fantastic local teams). -George |

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
Does anyone have any footage of qualification matches? I know 2252 is currently uploading stuff, but I was hoping to get to review all of our matches with our drivers before we compete again in week 6. The matches I'm still looking for footage on are: 19, 30, 40, 46, 60, 65, 84, and 99. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional
I have some of the matches here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...6B_YDe5d77uLW-
Of course, they are not as good quality as those from 2252. Hope it will suffice until those are available. |
