Ok, I am lost now :confused: , it looks like at certain points in the video, it has omni wheels, then it switches to mecanum wheels. So is it a Nonadrive, an octocanum, or is nonacanum actually a thing....

Orlando has a legit claim as the #1 non-championship competition this year.

Other than ours, this is my favorite robot this year.

Probably one of my favorite robots I've seen so far this year. The one advantage that I see you have is your height. Gonna be hard to block that.

I think it is just an H-drive omni setup with colsons on the outside for when they get into pushing matches. I don't think it's ever Mecanum, the 4in Mecanum wheels hubs look a lot different then anything shown it the video. I think it just how the omni wheels look when they spin.

Edit: Also awesome work CRyptonite, this thing looks amazing and I'm glad to see more teams trying new drive trains this season. The big three Texas regionals are going to be very interesting.

There's still one very well known Texas team that hasn't revealed yet, I wonder when they are going to get around to that.

Looks like the colsons dig in when they get pushed, using the drop center tilt rather than an active piston to actuate the "butterfly" mechanism.

Never seen that before (I don't have much experience with drivetrains) but looks very ingenious and effective.

Ok, JVN confused me.

Don't you need something to get extra pressure/suspension on the center wheel (referring to 148's set up)?

Actually, there is a picture at 0:45 that shows a pneumatic actuation on one set of colsons so I think it's actuated to push down the colsons. By dropping one set of wheels the robot will shift up on to the other set as well and pull all 5 omni wheels off the ground.

Now that I have had all of 20 minutes to think about this, this is a pretty brilliant drivetrain. Advantages of butterfly, H-drive, and west coast all rolled into one. I really hope this works well as I might be taking some inspiration from this in the future.

I thought those pistons were for some sort of intake.... whoa.
Looks like 624 just one-upped butterfly/octocanum drive :eek:

Now the question is, are they doing the auto shift thing like 33 did?
Also, I know of at least one octocanum that uses a similar mechanism, but instead has two extra small modules in the center ;) .

Yes this is a 5 wheel omni drive in one mode and a conventional tank with colsons in the other mode. Transitioning between mode is by shifting the front colsons down lifting the omni wheels off the ground. This entire drivetrain can be built using COTS parts and simple tools (drill press and band saw). The center omni is biased down by 1/8". Will see how it holds up.

Nice robot -- I really like the drive & your high catapult. The lighting is a bonus, and it really looks sharp. Also, whomever did the video deserves a pat on the back.

Now, I have to ask -- how did you attach the camera to the ball at the end of the video?

We put it in the protective case then...a lot of duct tape.

As well as 2415, 3310, and several other Dallas powerhouses that I'm not familiar with.

Just saw the reveal video for 2587.....you guys also have a good machine...

Spectrum, Cryponite, and you guys all went with good DT's for this game...the ability to switch between defense and maneuverability will be very helpful.

Thank you, our goal was to come up with a new idea by mixing ideas that have been used before. We are excited to see how it plays out at events and hope that teams might adopt the idea in the future since it uses all COTS items and can be manufactured without extremely expensive machinery that some teams may not have access to

Also - clever hybrid drive train!
