Driver station installation issue

Good Morning,

I am posting this on behalf of my programming team. Here is the problem as I understand it:

2 Laptops with identical setups:
Machine software specs:
Windows 7 32-bit (this is a clean OS install on freshly formatted hard drive)
All Microsoft updates applied
Google Chrome is only non-native program installed

Hardware:
Gateway M Series laptop
Intel Core-2 Duo 2.0GHz
3GB RAM

Problem:
Laptop 1: Driver station installation was successful and runs as expected

Laptop 2: When they go to install the FRC NI Update 2014 from:

there comes a point where they should be prompted for a password. The install skips the password prompt, goes straight to the NI installation welcome screen and then crashes with no error logs from NI or in Event Viewer.

Already attempted following steps:
Format and re-install OS
Triple check all required Microsoft updates
Disable all firewalls

Any ideas and/or help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Driver station installation issue

The latest update no longer requires the password to unzip it.

Are they downloading a fresh version of the Update in case one download or copy was corrupted?

After it is unzipped, and the programmers click on the setup to start the installation do they get a Security warning? They shouldn't if the firewall and anti-virus are turned off.

You can contact NI for advice on this installer issue.

They are directly downloading from web-site and then attempting install. From what I saw after the first attempt no, there is no security warning.

I am in the process of reattempting for duplication and will post today's results when I have more information. I teach computer technology and am personally stumped on this one.

Thanks for the reply.

Ok, after formatting, re-installing OS and me personally taking over installation task it finally worked and installed correctly. :D

I don't know what happened but I am figuring that it's kind of like when your engine is making a noise so you take it to the mechanic and it suddenly stops making the noise, that or the kids had a corrupt file somehow. Everything appears to be working correctly now thanks for the input!

And then...So everything was running except the smart dashboard (we are programming in C++)....and there we sat trying to figure it out and I was getting ready to post again to this thread when finally, after an hour of trying everything, my lead programmer says...(I so hope you are sitting down...)

Quote:

The smart dashboard is a Java app...do we need to install Java for it to run?....

I high-fived him in the forehead....

Now we are fully up and running. Thanks for the help! :)
