Mounting VersaWheels

Our team has decided to switch our drive-train over to using 4" Versa Wheel DTs. We will mount the wheels using 1/2" Hex VersaHubs, but are unsure whether a hub is required on each side of the wheel, or whether one hub per wheel is enough.

One hub is enough, but I recommend placing a bearing on the other side of the wheel; as opposed to leaving it "empty".

I've done this before and it works just fine.

An alternative is to use this guy: http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-1305.htm which makes wheel swaps a tad bit easier since the hex doesn't move.

We are doing that this year. One bearing on the inside and the hub on the outside. No issues yet with the exception of making it a little harder to get them on the shaft which isn't a big deal.

Another alternative would be to 3D print a hex spacer similar to the linked one if you have access to one.

I’ll try that if I have time with all the other stuff that needs to get done. Can’t hurt to be a little bit lighter.

This thing is wonderful. I didn't know it existed.
