2014 Howell District

Just wanted to create this thread regarding the Howell district competition. There are a few powerhouse teams that will be there (67,469). Any strategies that have been adopted from previous competitions that could be implemented into this competition?

308 Will be offering any programming we can to teams who need it. 100% mobility point capability is our target!

Just a few things I noticed while at the Hub City Regional; last second truss shots can (and will) make the difference in a close match, and it is usually safer to get assists and push the ball into a low goal instead of trying for the high goal. You should also be sure that your alliance partners now the rules very well, we were bitten hard by fouls just last week.

As a driver on a team competing at Howell all auton balls if not scored should be pushed (stuffed) into the low goal if you are not consistently scoring in auton do not put a ball in it hurts your alliance and wastes time. Your human players need to be well trained in how to place the ball into your robot. If you do not score the ball the first time in teleop your best bet is to push it into the low goal. Truss shots at the end can very easily make or break your match. Truss points are guaranteed and should be utilized at every chance.

I didn't have a chance to watch GL or Kettering, but one tactic that I thought was particularly good from the Centerline district was when one team took the ball, trussed it to another team, and that team booked it for the one point goal while the third team ran interference and mucked with the other alliances shooting. The cycles were very quick and were easy 21 points, so they could be racked up pretty quick.

It blacklists TBA so it isn't on Gameday.

Am I the only one getting a black screen on the Howell stream? The audio is coming through, but the only image is the scrolling text on the top.

billylo 14-03-2014 11:31

Any way to get to it on mobile? Thanks

If you just want the whole-field GoPro stream, it's at http://twitch.tv/firstinmichigan. No scores and poor audio, but you can see the whole field.

@Boe: 2771's stream seems fine, if a little grainy to me.

@billylo: Twitch.tv has an app, so you can watch the stream through that.

The video feed keeps getting bumped, I will see if we can get the cable taped down

if you see it down shoot me a message as webcast@coderedrobotics.com

...And the GoPro stream is down.

Edit: Back up in less than a minute. Nice.

I've been busy all day and haven't been able to watch the webcast. Who looks like the top robots at the event? I don't like basing it off ranking this year.

Off the top of my head I can name, 67, 27, 245, 469, 548, 2612, and 3688. 3688 hasn't missed a single auton ball on their two ball auton the whole day (Atleast when they were Red).

It's interesting to note that every single team has atleast 2 losses. Extremely stacked event if you ask me, I'm pumped for Elims tomorrow.

Would also throw on 4362 (GEM robotics) as another solid contender.

This competition is very exciting. I've been monitoring average Tele-op, Auton, Assist, Truss&Catch scores for all the Michigan District competitions this year, and even with only 75% of matches completed the average assist score is already at 184 (comparatively, the next highest average was Gull Lake where the average was 171 after ALL games were completed). The penalties are also not nearly as frequent as they were in week one which is making the general experience a lot more enjoyable.

That said, the competition really is fierce. Eliminations should be very exciting.

Lots of rounds this afternoon had some inspired defense going on. The matches where both teams scored under 100 were my favorites to watch. Check out Q-48 through Q-52 - there was a strange surge of defense all around, and then things got back to normal, more or less.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to check out these tomorrow when I go. I don't know why but 67, 245, and 548's arms just seem really fun to watch.

How much force does 469 have in that launcher of theirs? Watching those truss shots to 67's human player was amazing.

Huge thanks to 27 and 3536. That was an awesome alliance to play with.

Not sure how much force, but it's motor assisted too.

Re: 2014 Howell District

Congrats to all the teams at Howell. It was an exciting day and I'm gonna be stitching my lungs back together for days after all that screaming. I want to specifically call out our alliance partners 2075 and 3668. It was a pleasure to play alongside you all, and sorry that it didn't work out. I also want to give shout-outs to 27, 469, 548, 308, 226, 201, and 4362 for being cool about letting us join in your cheers after our alliance went down. It was really nice to still be able to participate in the competition and you guys were really nice about letting us join in :)

All things considered, it was a great time, and I think I can speak for my team when I say that you guys were all great fun to compete with and against!
