2014 Las Vegas Regional

The last time 1266 went to Las Vegas was in 2011. I wasn't even born yet.

Who are you excited to see most? I can't wait to see 399 and 60, but also a lot of teams that were great at San Diego. (Also we booked the Howard Johnson hotel which is right across from an IHOP and down the road from a Walmart soooo...)

Team 4276 is looking forward to seeing the 8 other teams from LA who are going to be there! (unless I miscounted!)

It's gonna be great! We'll be excited to be playing with 1717 again....we both started as rookies at the same regional, next to each other in the pits. And of course our friends the High Rollers...along with the many other teams we have competed with over the years in Arizona, California, Nevada, and championships, and the new ones we get to meet for the first time.

See you there!

So it seems this year Las Vegas is Arizona, San Diego, and Los Angelos + teams who wanted to go to one of those 3 regionals but couldn't.

Re: 2014 Las Vegas Regional

Our entire team is stoked. We've been in the shop practicing every day since we returned from the SD Regional.

Disregard this - Also, I do believe that this will be the last year the Vegas regional will be located at Cashman Center. If I am recalling correctly, FirstNV came to an agreement with the people in charge of the Thomas & Mack Center (same place the regional was located at in 2011) so the Vegas regional will be returning there next year. The Thomas & Mack is an arena, and I always prefer arena's for all FIRST events. Plus it is in a much better area.

I also know that the FirstNV people have been working extremely hard to make sure this regional is one of the best. We've worked with them for years and they're just as excited as we are!

Excited to see a lot of the teams from SD, as well as some other CA teams we missed. :D

JB987 27-03-2014 11:22

Re: 2014 Las Vegas Regional

To be clear...there has been some discussion with UNLV regarding a return to the arena. Nothing concrete at this time. The cost associated with using T and M arena is significantly higher than use of Cashman Field CC and we are struggling to raise money now as it is:(

Indeed. However, HoF teams do not generate a wildcard slot.

Re: 2014 Las Vegas Regional

To add to Steve's comment...from FRC Championship Elligibility Criteria:

"Wild Card slots are passed to the next team in the order specified above only if the team occupying that Wild Card slot has already qualified for Championship at an earlier 2014 Regional. The number of potential Wild Card slots created at each Regional is equal to the number of teams on the Winning Alliance who had already qualified for Championship at an earlier Regional in 2014".

I'm excited to see everyone, there is great and inspirational competition! I'm particularly excited to see 3245 Ravens, who were my old team (2403)'s winning 8th seed alliance partners in Utah 2012, as well as everyone we saw at Arizona last week. We've made a lot of improvements since then and I'm sure a lot of others have, as well.

We are excited to return to Las Vegas and play with and against old friends and new. We were watching the AZ regional at last Saturday's team meeting and rooting Plasma along. Great program; congrats for winning EI and the Regional!

And always it is good to see the Holy Cows and High Rollers who generously helped mentor us out of the ineptitude of our rookie year(s).

Team987 always puts in a huge amount of volunteer effort in putting on the LV regional - we thank you in advance!

I just wanted to extend the invitation here for teams to join us for The Chairman's Exchange (www.fusd1robotics.org/chex) on Thursday during lunch.

It will be another great opportunity for teams to practice their presentations and collaborate before the official presentations on Friday.

Let me know if your team is interested by PMing me or just visiting us in the pits Thursday morning!

2486 can't wait for the regional!!

Team 4276 had a great time in Vegas. We'd like to thank all of our alliance partners (hope you like the badges) for helping us through what was a highly competitive an challenging weekend.

We'd especially like to thank the Friarbots (Team 3309) and the Clockwork Oranges (Team 4322) for choosing us as their alliance partners in the quarterfinals! I liked seeing an all Orange County alliance!

How about all those delays and restarts in Semis 2 though? It felt like an hour just for that match alone...

Re: 2014 Las Vegas Regional

987 would like to thank our good friends on 2485 for inviting us to join the number one seed along with another great team, 2478. We had a blast working with our Warlord buddies and hope we are lucky enough to do the same in St. Louis. This win was especially sweet given the incredibly tough defense teams had to battle throughout the event. Haven't seen such brutal contact since 2007 and just glad our roller damage from our last qual was an easy fix. We are taking several replacement parts to Champs sure;)

Kudos to 1717, 3476 and 687 for putting up one heck of a tough fight both finals matches. Congrats to 1515 for the RCA, 1266 for the IE and all of the other teams that won awards and the rest of the teams that made this a great 10th year anniversary. Special thanks to teams like 585 manning the safety glasses posts and 4792 for helping to put up and taking down the field and any other teams that contributed any volunteers throughout the event. Thanks to 2122 for archiving the matches that will hopefully be shared soon:) Best of luck to all teams advancing to Champs!

I would like to personally thank all the Vegas crew and teams for making this an awesome event, the first non-CA regional I have attended and volunteered at. There was a lot of crazy matches and the finals were down to the wire.

2485 had an amazing time and a lot of fun, and big thanks to our partners 987 and 2478 for the big win and the #bloobanerz! The last matches against 1717, 3476 and 687 were intense. I also got a bunch of pictures from the event I will post here soon.

Hopefully see you all at champs!

I remember some hammering before those matches....

We broke a support on our catcher and had to patch that up real quick. There was brutal contact in these matches.

I'd like to see a public report on what exactly was happening. I assume it was a field fault of some sort.

In the end, an alliance won 2 of 3 officially counted matches, and went on.

Yes, someone from that semifinals matchup please do enlighten us about what happened. We noticed 1717's inactivity during a couple autonomous modes and then a field fault when multiple robots became disabled, but the field seemed to be working fine the entire rest of the weekend (I recall 2 makeup games Saturday)

This is what we were watching in the stand for about an hour:

Re: 2014 Las Vegas Regional

From BHP's post in other CD thread...

At the Las Vegas Regional, the Semi Finals 2 took 6 matches to decide the winner.

Match 1: A cameraman blocked a ball resulting in a "field fault"
Match 2: 1717 didn't move for 30 seconds blamed on field
Match 3: Good. 1717 still didn't move, but blamed on bot. 2122/399/1725 win.
Match 4: Good. 399 blew the 120A breaker, 1717/3476/687 win.
Match 5: 399 tips onto 2 balls, dead ball confusion ensued, match stops early.
Match 6: Good. 1717/3476/687 win.

Team 399 had a fantastic time at the Las Vegas Regional.

Congrats to the winning alliance of 987, 2485, and 2478. We were definitely excited to see our friends on 2485 qualify for champs, and we know they'll be a huge contender on whichever field they are on.

I loved getting the chance to alliance with 2122 and 1572. We have great friends on Team Tators, and getting the chance to work with them is always a pleasure. We have attended at least one regional with 1572 for the past few years, but this was the first time we had the opportunity to work with them, and we had a great experience.

Those 6 semi-final rounds were some rough ones! Our robot has the scratches and dents that show the tenacity of every team on that opposing alliance. We got a good chance to talk with everyone we were competing against, as we reset the field time after time. Knowing everyone had the best intentions in mind, the matches felt genuinely fun to be a part of.

399 is definitely looking to attend this event in the future.

This was, hands down, my favorite regional competition in all my four years with FIRST. If it weren't for college getting in the way, I'd have been in Vegas all three days.

Cheers to our excellent alliance partners 987 and 2485 for the opportunity to compete in the elimination matches, and cheers again to every team who attended for the top-notch competition on the field. As for the 6-match semifinals, that was a rough set of circumstances, but all six teams involved weathered it admirably.

If anyone is interested, we've posted a recording of our elimination matches from the robot's perspective:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol6jfLFDs1I

On a separate note, was the livestream recorded, and if so will it be posted on YouTube or otherwise now that the regional is over? All I can find are handheld camera videos of a few of the matches. Also - does anyone know what the song playing halfway through Finals 1 was? I have no clue what it's called, and I really want to find it... :(

Wow! I knew you guys were driving good out there, but I didn't realize just how good until I watched the videos from the robot's perspective. You were playing great D and helping out with picks on offense with seamless transition. That 1 point goal in QF 1 was brilliant!

Re: 2014 Las Vegas Regional

2485 would like to thank our good friends on 987 for taking another crack at it with us in the elimination rounds. We thought that we had fixed our shooter before match F-2, but apparently we hadn't; they did all of the heavy lifting in those finals matches and they weathered the games like the champs that they are. We would also like to say thanks to Team 2478; we were thrilled and surprised that you were still available to round out the alliance. Your GoPro footage tells the story clearly: smart playing, powerful shooting, and amazing driving! We certainly hope that all three of us end up on the same field in St. Louis.

It was intense watching 1717, 3476, 678 and 2122, 399, 1572 duke it out over and over again in the semifinals. Both alliances ran the gauntlet on that one. Kudos to all teams involved!

Congratulations to 1266 for the Engineering Inspiration award and to 1515 on winning their 3rd Chairman's award!

2485 certainly felt fortunate and had a great time in Vegas. We look forward to returning in 2015!

Good luck to all of the teams that are playing in St. Louis!
