I will make note of that in my notebook. Thanks!

I believe that would be an artifact of having to wear safety glasses in the pits (and on the field) at all times. Pit Admin is located in the pits; you can send 4 team members to the field (drive team); if you don't have 4 pairs of safety glasses, the drive team probably doesn't have enough for all of them.

Yes, it should be in the manuals. No, it is not arbitrary.

I've been a referee and a robot inspector for years and I've never heard of this. Is this just a tradition in certain areas?

They've asked for the safety glasses for a few years now in a spotty sort of way.
At Championship I sometimes have had to bring the whole drive team to pit admin to register since they are actively wearing the four sets of safety goggles.
We make each team member responsible for their own safety goggles.

P.S. It's not a rule that I can find, but years ago I remember seeing it on the check-in directions one year.

NXT,
Don't get overly worried about inspections. Inspectors are really nice people who want you to compete. They will do everything they can to get you compliant and get other teams to help when needed. You will have fun at your first event, don't worry. It will be crazy but you will get through it. As long as you remember to breathe...

We have never had show any safety glasses at a regional or the championship to register.

I believe the logic is 4 people are allowed in the pit for opening, thus 4 pairs of safety glasses are needed....
I am ust as confused as everyone else though...

Re: Ugh! Paperwork.

I believe it's been enforced at the MN Regionals for the last 4 or 5 years, and tends to slow things up at registration. I have no problem expecting teams to have enough safety glasses to cover all of their pit crew and drive team members (which actually is stated in the Admin Manual), but as others have said, many times said members are wearing their glasses so finding four to bring to registration isn't always trivial, and adds one more thing for an overwhelmed rookie team to worry about Thursday morning. I can also understand if there was a requirement to have four additional sets to share with visitors or as extras for your own team, but this isn't called out anywhere until the team contact gets to the front of the registration line and is asked where their glasses are. Perhaps it's a holdover from an older manual or checklist and just hasn't bubbled up as a high priority to clean up (and I'm not arguing that it should - everyone manages to make it through check-in eventually) :)

Anyone know of any other paperwork that I should bring to the Competition?

Stephanie_sharp 28-03-2014 10:42

Paperwork to bring:
Bill of Materials-show at inspection
Robot Lock Up Form-show at door at load-in, before un-bagging
Team Roster-show at registration
Signed Permission Forms for those not submitted electronically ( I usually take extra blank forms for those mentors who are in the pit and didn't sign up), show at registration

In Michigan, before anyone can get in pit, they must be wearing safety glass! No safety glasses, NO ENTRY! Period. It doesn't matter if its a visitor or a drive team member. So pit admin will not check for safety glasses.

Re: Ugh! Paperwork.

I was a Robot Inspector this year. We looked at the Lockup form before we cleared the bot to be unbaged. During inspection, we review the BOM. For the BOM, it is helpful if you segment it into functional groups (drive train, shooter, loader, pneumatics, control, etc.). It helps us to make sure all pieces are listed. Also, with each motor, list the motor number. The inspection sheet (which we have) has legal motor numbers. It makes it easier for us to make sure you are within limits for each motor type.
