Clarifying truss question

Hey Guys,

My team (138) just got back from the Rhode Island District Event and we had a blast. In honesty it wasn't our best event, but we did okay.

I noticed that at this event, whenever a team shot the ball over the truss it added ten points to their cycle, regardless of whether or not they got it in to the goal after the fact.
However... at the Granite State District even in Nashua NH during week 1, you would only get the truss points if you scored.

Did one of the competitions do it wrong? Was a rule changed in between week 1 and week 4?

To be honest, we lost a playoff match on a buzzer beater truss shot from the other team, which is why I am curious to know whats the deal with that rule.

Thanks,
Joe

Truss points count immediately, it doesn't matter if they were scored afterwards. I was also at Nashua and can guarantee you that they were scoring it immediately.

The relevant rule:

Note, it makes no mention of a ball having to be scored in a goal to be counted.

Truss and Catch points are awarded as they happen, allowing a team to gain a burst of points in the last few seconds of the match, possibly winning for them.

However, Assist and goal points are awarded only when the ball is scored into the goal.

Remember that you cannot score truss points on auto balls, and you can only get truss points once per cycle. It may have been that teams were shooting the auto balls over the truss without realizing this wouldn't count for points, or shooting the same ball over the truss more than once, which is why 10 points were not added after those actions.

Also, truss points are "awarded" when the Ref enters it on the terminal, and the scoring system acknowledges it. The Ref may be watching for something, and not enter the score right away.
