Hey!

My team is considering going to RoboProm this year. What are somethings that we should know?

1. What is considered "normal" to wear
2. What activities are there

We'll be answering frequently asked questions, such as yours, over the days leading up to the event.

To your first question, there isn't a "normal" attire. You will find several people dressed well in tuxes and dresses. With the large amount of people dressed in costumes, duct tape suits, and LED lined dresses, "normal" isn't a thing at this event. :) Dress how you want!

There will be snacks and drinks to go along with the music and dancing. The event is still in the planning stages, so if more activities come along, it will be announced in this thread along with the RoboProm page on our team website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an event for FIRST volunteers, too?
This event is primarily for current FIRST students. The amount of tickets we sell is chosen based on the maximum capacity of the ballroom we have booked. That number considers the students attending, the mentors that will be chaperoning them, and the individuals that are required to run the event.

How many mentors are allowed into the event per team?
We don't set a certain ratio of mentors per number of students. However, we do allow mentors in with the primary intent of chaperoning their team. We haven't had any issues in 7 years of hosting this event, but we expect the chaperons to help if anything out of the ordinary occurs.

I will continue to add FAQs over the next few days!

Chaperones are free, but do they need a ticket that is free, or do they just come in? Do they count towards the 1600 person limit?

Just trying to count tickets needed.

Thanks!

They are allowed to simply enter without any sort of chaperon ticket. You only need to purchase tickets for the students attending. The 1600 ticket limit considers students only. The max capacity limit is a safe number above that :)

Is there a place where we can find out how many tickets are left?

You can ask me! Our school accountant wasn't able to set up the paypal with any sort of "in stock" type of deal to give live updates on how many tickets were left.

We have sold 302 tickets, which is ahead of last year's sales pace.

For those who are waiting to buy tickets, keep in mind that last year during the week before champs, we sold the tickets at an average rate of 115/day. If that rate increases as we expect it to, they are looking to sell out much, much sooner.

Plan ahead! Get tickets before it is too late!

Re: RoboProm 2014

This year for RoboProm, attendees will be able to nominate themselves for RoboProm court!

How it works:
Students will email a picture or video of themselves with a description on why they think they deserve to make RoboProm Court to RoboProm399@gmail.com. A panel of judges will then review the submissions and choose three females for queen court, and three males for king court. All king and queen nominees will be asked to sign in at the event. The final king and queen will be decided and announced at the event.

When it’s happening:
Submissions are open as of now Friday, April 11th 2014, and will continue until Saturday, April 19th 2014 at 6:00 PM Pacific Time.

If students wish, they may post to our Facebook event page, and to Twitter about their submission with #RoboProm. All negative or hateful comments will be deleted from posts. Group submissions will count as multiple separate individual submissions.

Good luck!

Awesome, but can mentors and/or Chaperones submit/nominate king and queen? or is this just student based only?

Mentors and chaperons can nominate! Just remember that the student will have to sign in at the event if they are chosen as one of the final three.

How many tickets are left? I'm trying to organize a group right now, but it might be a few days before it's solid.

Yesterday, our sell count was 433.

1,167 are left as of now, but are selling at an increasing rate.

Edit: That number didn't include today's ticket sales. The actual number sold is 765.
