I went ahead and added a column for intake type, as I believe this is a factor in passing and game piece collection.
Please provide input. Thanks.

I found it very interesting as well. All of the data that I used came from the Galileo predictions document found here. Essentially, for each match in a team's schedule, I subtracted out said team's contribution and calculated their alliance's winning margin without them (which were largely negative). I then ordered these winning margins in ascending order. My value is simply the negative of the third number in this ordered list.

When you are looking at team X, do you use max/world OPR for opponent Y's OPR, or is Y's OPR also based off what it takes to reach 8-2. This is a very interesting way to think about things, thanks for sharing it.
In all of my calculations, I use the OPR from the above document (I believe this is max event OPR).

I'm not sure if I'm being clear enough. I would be happy to answer any other questions you have about this.

Keep in mind the value of a goalie robot, the matches in where we were matched with two good shooters we (5137) won. There are lots of really good shooters at the finals. Might be a metric you want to calculate I think defense can be as good as offense by ruining cycles of the opposing alliance or at least delaying them significantly while our own alliance scores. We had a zero points in a match because all three robots were defense and two of our other losses was a broken robot in the mix...so that affected our overall stats at the regional but we made an impact and earned the rookie all star. Problem with defense only is we rely on two good offensive robots to provide scoring when that happens good things do. I think with all the offensive firepower at the championships...we will be fine.

Looking forward to St. Louis!

Re: Galileo 2014

All of these new lists based upon OPR make me .

I have scouted 1885's 20 alliance partners using the schedule currently posted and the video that is available (at least 6 matches per). My mentors & students will scout 1885's 30 opponents over the next 2 days. We start from the team's latest video (including elims) and work backwards in order to see the behaviors we will most likely see at Champs.

Data includes:
HG shots attempted, HG shots made, Inbound attempts, inbound successes, Auto ball attempts, auto ball successes, # of HOT goals, # of truss attempts, # of truss successes, # of trusses to HP or out of bounds, # of times a ball popped out of the robot during gameplay, rough estimate of intake time in seconds (also taking into account driver skills), rough estimate of favorite shooting distance, # of time effective defense was played on other teams, # of times the robot was pushed, # of times the robot was out of offensive position due to playing or receiving defense, # of obvious penalties, # of seconds of lost comms

Trivia: HOT is the 2nd most high goal scoring robot we play with on a per-match basis, but only by < 0.25 goals per match. Can anyone guess who the #1 high goal bot of the 20 is, statistically?

If anyone is willing to trade data on Wednesday, we will have plenty. This data isn't quite free since it took many labor hours to get. Yet if a team can even provide realistic statistics of their own team using the categories above and online video, we'd be more than willing to share all of what we have. The point of the trade is mutual hedging against schedule changes. Unfortunately the schools were out on Spring Break last week, so our ability to get all 100 teams' worth just wasn't there.

Re: Galileo 2014

Maybe next season I want to develop and test a new metric for FRC scouting: Bumper Quality Rating (BQR).

BQR-5: The platonic ideal of FRC bumpers. Fabric is snug and no wrinkles are visible; no extra material in the corners. Bumpers are installed or removed in one fluid motion. Milled slots or pockets in the plywood backing, sized for minor protrusions from the robot frame perimeter, allow the bumper frame to mate tightly against the robot.
...
BQR-0: Moderate to heavy use of duct tape.

I believe BQR would outperform OPR as a predictor of on-field robot performance.

I think "BQR" would have worked at Chesapeake....I can't tell you
how many robots we saw that had saggy, wrinkled and poorly made
bumpers. We saw a few that had material dragging on the floor that
made me wonder how they ever got thru inspection. I recall one team
there hadn't even made bumpers until they got there.

Post-regional bumpers are the best kind of bumpers.

I think Match 31 is too close to call since the margin is small relative to how fast a single cycle can happen. Right now 857 & 2052's stats and play styles are almost identical, so we'll have to figure out who plays what position. Both look like great partners to have. That strategy will likely decide the match flow, and therefore the match. With the right teamwork, we could totally blow that match wide open :D - or not, if we fail to work together.

Did anyone else get video of Q3? We want to edit together about 50 different perspectives of our human player taking one for the team at the end of autonomous. (He was fine, by the way.) Should make for a fun project on the bus ride home.

Thank you for the shout-out! You guys did absolutely amazing and we are truly proud of you guys! Making it to Einstein was not only a great feat, but an inspiration for VA FIRST teams such as ourselves. In addition, congratulations to team 1885 ILITE for their award! We are proud of both teams and hope to see even more Virginia FRC teams stepping up in the future! Also, We hope to see you at various offseason events! Lastly, thank you to all the teams that we got the honor to play with, against, and communicate with; it was very interesting seeing the diverse designs and team ideologies/methodologies across the country and globe! :D

Re: Galileo 2014

On behalf of Team 2481, The Roboteers, I would like to express our immense appreciation to our amazing alliance partners 67 The HOT Team, 973 Greybots, and 2363 Triple Helix. Collectively, we formed one hell of an alliance on that epic journey to Einstein Field. I still don't think the events of this past weekend have fully sunk in yet, but it's definitely an experience that noone on our team will ever forget.

To our great alliance captains, 67, thank you for giving us the opportunity to compete with you guys with the alliance selection and then believing in us to finish off our alliance's scoring cycles throughout our run through elims. It was an honor to work with you guys and we would jump at the chance to do it again in the future. As always, your robot design was truly inspiring and it was an absolute force out there on the field.

To the original goalie bot, 973, your defensive prowess was truly a terrifying force to be reckoned with. We were so glad to be sharing a bumper color with you guys when the defensive intensity of the competition hit it's peak. You guys are a true class act and we loved the opportunity to share the field with you regardless of if it was working with you guys throughout elims or against you guys in qualifications. Amazing robot and the precision of the goalie pole usage in autonomous was absolutely incredible. Similarly, we look forward to any opportunity to work together with you guys again in the future.

To the selfless backup, 2363, you guys had an amazing robot that would have been a major factor in elims. It was great to know that a team of your caliber had our backs if anything went horribly wrong out there on the field. It was a true pleasure to work with you guys and we'd love the opportunity to do so again in the future.

I would also like to say thanks to team 1717 for your advisement on improvements we could make moving forward to our swerve drive design. We were incredibly excited to get the chance to work with you guys and pick your brains a bit on the intricacies of swerve. We are obviously an infant team in this respect, but your advice, recommendations, and suggestions were greatly appreciated and will definitely help us improve moving forward. We wish you guys the best of luck and we hope we get the chance to cross paths again in the future.

I also have to give special shout outs to teams 4488 and 193. 4488, it is absolutely incredible what you guys have been able to accomplish as a second year team. Your entire team was a pleasure to both work with and compete against and it was an honor to face you in the finals. As you guys move forward, know you've got fans and support from 2481 in the midwest. 193, it was so much fun getting the opportunity to compete with you guys. What you guys are able to do as a JV team (essentially a prennial rookie) is truly inspiring. Similarly, you've also got fans in team 2481 that will be rooting you on whenever we see your number in the future.

Also, congratulations to 384 on your much deserved division Engineering Inspiration award! You guys were amazing and it was a pleasure to compete with you guys.

Congratulations to all the other award winners and every team that competed on the Galileo field. It was an honor to compete with you all.

It was a truly enjoyable experience being down in the pits with this spectacular alliance. We were told on several occasions that the alliance was happy that we were there, our Field Coach was uses extensively, and we were told to voice any opinions on the alliance's strategy that we had. We truly felt a part of the alliance even though our robot was not on the field.

2481 you guys had a truly superb swerve drive and I was thoroughly impressed with how well it performed on the field. I hope to see more of it in the future.

We hope to work with any of you again in the future and look forward to hopefully doing it at worlds again next season.

Re: Galileo 2014

WOW...what an emotional, up and down weekend. After finishing as Division Finalists in 2012 and 2013, we were putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to try to live up to our own expectations, and getting a chance to play in front of everyone in the Einstein field this year. To do so we knew we would have to play at our very best to get past all the great teams in Galileo.

Thank you and congratulations to all the teams in Galileo for a great weekend of matches!

To our alliance partners:

973 - After getting dominated by defense at MSC, we had an expected style of play that we wanted to achieve coming into Champ. We were watching your team very closely, knowing that you guys would be able to deliver some dominating defense if called upon. Needless to say, between the goalie pole and the drivers shutting down the other alliances scorers, you did not dissapoint. Watching and working with California teams always highlight how much attention to detail and how hard working you guys are. Adam provided another level of strategy discussion and analysis that I probably would not have thought of, with my coaching/strategy style.

2481 - WOW...should not have been available for us as a second round pick! We were entirely expecting to be required to handle the scoring load for our alliance. To be able to switch off to the truss role, knowing that you guys had the scoring handled, made our alliance extremely effective. Your swerve drive was incredible, moving flawlessly around the field to get open for the inbound, scoring, or defending the inbound/truss. Your pit crew worked extremely hard to ensure the machine performed every match through the eliminations and Einstein.

2363 - Same as 2481....should not have been around for us, but I'm gald you were! I would have been completely comfortable swapping your team onto the field and lining up against anyone that we played. I meant what I said that, we wanted you guys to be involved in any of the strategy discussions and let us know if there was something we were missing or you disagreed with. Your on-field coach (unfortunately, I don't remember her name) was incredibly helpful on the field. She was perfect at letting us know exactly what we going on during the match (time, score, how many assists on an opponents ball)....it was great to have her out there with us.

Congrats to 1153, 4488, 1318, and 1218 on finishing as Division Finalist. Very hard fought matches. We thought we had it after 2...but you guys forced us to prove it all the way to the end. Build from this finish to take the next step to Einstein.

Some additional shout outs...

We were fortunate enough to play with our good friends from Texas, 148 Robowranglers in our first qualification match. Unfortunately, we had another year in the same Division that we had to play against each other in eliminations. We love you guys! Looking forward to playing with you at IRI this year...

Thanks to Liz (FTA) and Dante (Head Ref) for dealing with us all weekend. It felt like we asked a lot of questions...we just wanted to make sure we knew exactly what was happening during our matches. Thanks to all the other volunteers as well.

On behalf of team 1717, I want to thank their fantastic Alliance partners, team 2122, 3683, and 193 for their talent, hard work, and assistance both on and off the field. I'd also like to congratulate our opponents 1756, 148, 558, and 3098 for their win in the Quarterfinals. You guys played extremely well and deserved your win. It's a shame those G12 foul points tied the match and kept us from going for a third round, I would have loved to see how it would play out.

Congratulations to Teams 67, 973, 2481, and 2363 for winning the Galileo Division and performing on Einstein. I would have loved to try our goalie dodging autonomous for real ;)

2481, I loved watching you guys play and appreciate the shout out. You played great on both offense and defense, and were our next choice had either of our alliance members been unavailable. I think things went well for you anyways  I'm impressed that this was your first attempt at swerve, you guys did great and I look forward to your future iterations.

Better late than never!

I have a lot of teams I want to mention, and there are so many great ones, so please don't be offended if you're left out!

First, our partners.

67. When I was a little boy, 67 was already great. 10 years later, they’re still great. It was an awesome experience being able to work alongside such a great team as peers, and alongside a coach with such a great name ;).

2481. These guys were good. We were happy to get them as a steal, and then 67 and us both noticed in our scouting numbers they were the BEST finisher on our alliance. Their swerve was awesome (especially for a first attempt!) and was great for juking around defenders in the front zone.

2363 Coming into champs I knew these guys were good, and they performed well at champs. Unsure how they were around so late in the draft. It was bittersweet they never got play (good in that no one broke, bad in that no one got to see them perform in elims) but at least they got to play that practice match on einstein. As soon as selections were over I came over like a seagull with all sorts of requests for them to do, and they were totally down and eager to make it happen. They installed our spare blocker and got it running under cheesy vision in case we ever needed it. Their coach was AWESOME in the box, and was able to put up with and keep pace with the intensity Adam and I bring to elims at champs.

4488 I noticed these guys at their first district, and knew they’d so something special this year. They were one of my favorite teams in Galileo, and could make shots from almost anywhere with the slightest opening. Watch for these guys next year.

4967 It’s a bummer these guys missed elims, they played with us in one of our toughest matches and were instrumental in pulling off the upset. Great group of kids and mentors that made a capable machine, and backed it up with some real team players.

1717 It was nice to get a qual with you guys, seems like far more often we’re playing against each other! Bummer to see you guys go out in quarters with such a great machine.

Adam and 973,
The experience down on the field with you guys was amazing. It is very reassuring to know that we were so high on both 973's and 67's scouting lists. I was personally surprised we were still available as the 3rd pick, even with as well as we performed there is obviously some work we need to to at showcasing our team's capabilities. It was great being on an alliance with two consistently powerful teams like 973 and 67. I'm glad we were able to meet your requests for the small chance that we were needed, it was good to know that you had the confidence in us to be able to do it. I hope we were able to impress some people, as we are a pretty unknown team outside of our area.

I know this experience made our field coach's year as a senior. How's this for a senior year? Winning a regional as the field coach, being selected as a Dean's List finalist, being selected for eliminations at Championship, helping your alliance win the division, then getting to compete on Einstein. I know I'm a little jealous!

Having been that 4th team and not having the opportunity to put our robot on the field, I am a big supporter of the practice matches on Einstein. It was a great experience for our drive team to be able to play a match (even a very short one) in front of all 400 teams and showcase what they can do. It can be difficult to make that 4th alliance member feel a part of the alliance, and I think our alliance did a very good job of making us feel like we were equals.

I hope we are able to compete with you guys again in the future, hopefully this year was the turning point in turning us into a perennial Championship team.

P.S. I'm driving out to California and stealing your pit, you might want to lock that thing up real good.

Does your archived video only go up to match 59? That seems to be all that is up online currently.

Does anyone have matches 146,167 or 56 that you could share?
Thanks
