Re: 2014 Newton Division
Skunk Works (1983) is looking forward to stinking it up again on Newton!
Looking forward to playing with many of our friends! Nice to see that several teams that we have direct connections to are on the same field!! 190, 1806, 1678, 971 and all of our friends from the PNW 997, 2522, 3238, 4061, 1294 (Good luck to our District Alliance partners 1318 (Galileo) 4060 (Galileo) and 2907 (Archimedes) you guys rock!!! |
Re: 2014 Newton Division
16 and 368 have to be allianced because those two swerves on the same side of the field will be dangerous.

Anyone else notice that closeness in name and number between 971 Spartan Robotics and 997 Spartan Robotics? Let's hope no one gets confused like at IRI 2013 when 3476 and 3467 got mixed up during alliance selection.

Wow great looking division!
I looked out our match list.. I noticed that we only have 8 matches?!? I thought the schedule change was to accommodate a 10 match schedule. Anyone else seeing this? I know that more than likely the list will change when we arrive. Just wondering. Good luck to all the teams! Aloha! |

Re: 2014 Newton Division
I'm really happy to see that we get to play with both 1678 and 971. Our team had so much fun playing against their alliance in the finals of Sacramento this year, happy to see that we get to play together again. Let's bring the title home for California this year!
|
Re: 2014 Newton Division
I would love nothing more then to work with 16 again.
And I think if 16, 25, 1640 paired up it would be a killer alliance. |
Re: 2014 Newton Division
Team Rembrandts from the Netherlandsis trilled to be on newton. Great so see so many top teams in this division. Does any1 have a list on how many nationalities are involved in Newton?

4464 is excited to be a part of Newton this year. We're extremely grateful to have the opportunity to experience Worlds for the second time in two years; it's a huge inspiration to our students and an absolute blast!
Also, Newton is totally the smartest of the scientists who have fields named after them. Just sayin'. ;) |
Re: 2014 Newton Division
364 is excited to be back at worlds for the first time since 2011. We are SUPER excited to compete against all of these great teams in Newton. Good luck to all in St. Louis.

Could we (do we need to) make a column for videos? We did that in our scouting spreadsheet. We used reveal videos whenever possible, however, we needed to use match videos sometimes. I could copy the links in that we have and people could replace/fix any links. |

Re: 2014 Newton Division
I like this year's preliminary schedule a lot better than last year's.
We start the tournament with 1114 & 910, and end qualifications with 971 and 364. A host of all-star caliber teams in between. Let's do this. |

Here is an attempt to produce a "strength of schedule" spreadsheet for Netwon. I add the OPRs of your 2 partners and subtract the OPRs of your 3 opponents and then total it for all matches. (Your own OPR is not included in the total.) The total values are then normalized from 1 (easiest schedule) to 100 (hardest schedule.) You can use either Max or Average OPR (I got the values from Ed Law's database.) The usual warnings about taking OPR too seriously apply.
You can also type in a team number and list all partners and opponents. EDIT: I loaded a new version with updated OPRs. |
Re: 2014 Newton Division
Below is my attempt at compiling the "Must See" matches for Newton. I used a threshold of combined OPR of 400 (using "adjusted OPR"). There will be lots of other great matches, but I was trying to go for the top 10 or so.
There are 9 matches (out of 167) in Newton with a combined OPR score higher than 400. Match 33 is the highest combined score of 480. They are: ![]() (Calculated using team 2834's 2014 Scouting Database using adjusted OPR) |
