Quoted for truth...

"F-to-the-I-to-the-R-to-the-S-to-the-T"

Sticks in my head like a bad dream.

I think they actually played the first verse during opening ceremonies (I think it was opening). My team saw it at NYC and loved the, "you can be the greatest, you can be the best, you can be an engineer or a scien-test." and we sang along.

The FIRST-ized recording was definitely played at Montreal too. Dean was there to 'unveil' it.

I think what happened at champs was mostly that Will.I.am is a performing artist. He performs his song at concerts all over the place, and to change the lyrics for this one venue, its easy to make a mistake.

Here is what the performance looked like from the pits on the right side of the Einstein field. It was amazing looking up at the crowd with the synchronized smart phones lighting up the dome.

Still sounded like bad karaoke.

Here's a view from my angle up on high:

Also, I thought they played the FIRST version after the last Einstein finals match, but I could be wrong.

I am not 100% sure, but I think that they played it in between two matches because I partially remember some teams sitting down on the field, but don't quote me on that. ;)

I remember what sounded like a 'studio' recording of the FIRST version sometime later than the 'live' performance at CMP.

PS. "2112" during Einstein was amazing.

I really liked the song, better then some of the other FRC songs I have heard in the past..... It may not have a 100% original beat or backing but it's an amazing start.

Ahh... the FIRST theme songs... probably one of the worst songs I've ever heard. I doubled up laughing when I first heard it.

2112? How come they don't play awesome music like that at regionals!

Todd - thanks for the video!

There is a much more polished version with the new lyrics recorded as many have mentioned.
But I have a hard time criticizing a performance where will.i.am chose to spend so much time with all of us and has been incredibly supportive. I found the the entire performance (and finals) so much fun, and a bit magical.

For the sake of those of us who've only been around since 2010, could someone please post a link to the original FIRST theme songs?

I'm sorry...

This compared to Hall of Fame? Please let HoF be the FIRST theme song...

You're not sorry enough!

Here are the links to the real oldies but (not, never, please God no) goodies:

I'm still trying to relate "it's time to pull the leather" to anything we do in FIRST....

Can we please get a Dean Simmons and the Kamen Brothers cover of this at IRI?

Perhaps they will have a new band member this year: Will.I.Am.Not (or maybe Will.I.Aint would be more appropriate for DSK)
