2014 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus

Hello Chief Delphi!

If you haven't heard yet, team registration for the 2014 Rah Cha Cha Rukcus opens on May 5! Once again, the Ruckus will be hosted in the popular Main Street Armory in Rochester! The event will take place on October 18, 2014 and is certain to be a good time for all. More details will come as we get closer to the event.

Hope to see you there!

Garrick

Glad to see a strong Canadian contingent again. Hopefully 188, 1334, and 3683 sign up again, and I'd love to see 1310 too. Perhaps we can even entice 1114 and 2056 to come down... You know, there are Tim Hortons in Western New York. Also hoping for some more Ohio representation from 48 and 379, who both had good showings this year.

Also looking forward to having 4039, 4093, and 4930 at the same event, that won't be confusing at all!

Yeah, it'll be a real hoot. Right up there with having 2468 and 2648 in the same match and then having 3467 and 3476 a few matches later. 2468 and 2648 finally got me @ the championships and I sent them to the wrong sides of the field. Fun times.

We had a great time last year and the year before. The new venue is excellent. I'm spreading the word so let's hope for more Canadian teams.

Please do not extend the cap. While I understand the desire for more teams, please understand the desire of the teams attending for more matches.

Also, I am so pumped that 1114 is attending. Heck yeah!

That's my feeling as well. 48 teams (the reasonable next cap number past 42) is for day and a half event far as I'm concerned (like Battlecry) and we're not ready for that kind of commitment yet ( I was going to say running a two day is impossible in the Fall and then I remembered Cowtown Throwdown. I should visit there one day to see how they do it out West).

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the input - helpful comments like these are what really lets us tailor Ruckus into the event that our attendees want.

For everyone,

The planning committee is carefully considering (read: heavily, heavily discussed!) the delicate balance between the desire for a "big" feeling event and the desire for more matches by those attending. While we aren't 100% certain yet and I cannot provide any guarantees, our general feeling is basically in agreement with your concern in that we don't want to push past 42 teams even if we can physically accommodate that at the venue. Again, that's not a hard number just yet, but it's a rough target that we're trying to zero in on as we get through some more planning details.

All that said, we've seen a record number of registrations in just the first few days here (thank you teams!!). If you are on the fence about registering, I suggest getting your team to discuss it soon and get your registration in! Remember that payment is not due immediately.

If your team has questions about the event or the registration process, please use the contact form on the website (http://ruckus.penfieldrobotics.com) and we'll get back to you very quickly. Comments left here also work, but contacting via the site will get you a reply much faster. We also welcome suggestions and any feedback on last year's event that you didn't get to provide or just want to remind us of :)

I'm looking forward to a great event and am excited for Ruckus #10!

Slight update - registrations continue to pour in, so we're moving to wait listing of new registrations for the final handful of spots that we anticipate having left so that we do not overbook. Once we hand-allocate those, we'll be continuing to keep a wait list of interested teams to fill for any unfortunate cancellations.

This doesn't mean we're full! But we're getting close! Again, if interested please get your team to register soon!

On behalf of the planning committee, I can say we've been positively overwhelmed at the response this year and are so delighted that so many teams, near and far, are interested in Ruckus. We can't wait for this year's event!!

(ps - Volunteer registrations will open soon!)

Re: 2014 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus

Something else to consider is that to accommodate more teams you could extend the event a little later. A few more qual rounds after lunch wouldn't be unreasonable. This is more tiring on volunteers though.

Funny story, last Sunday walking into church I had the idea of starting a team at their school, only to find out they already had recruitment posters up.

Here are some updates about the Rah Cha Cha Ruckus.
The full team list will be up to date by Monday.
The event is currently full. Thank you to all the teams for their interest this year. The committee is really happy that so many teams wanted to attend the event.
If spots open up we will do a second registration round. Registration will be first come, first serve. We will announce the opening of registration by our Facebook page at least 24 hours in advance. This will most likely happen sometime in September.
https://www.facebook.com/rahchacharuckus
Rules changes are posted on the Ruckus website.

Hello everyone!

This year, we were very pleased to see such an interest in Ruckus, and we are excited for our 10th year! At this time, the event is full and registration is closed. We have processed our wait-list, and our 45-team roster will be up to date on our website by Monday. If, for any reason, teams drop out and space opens up, a second registration period will open up, likely later in September. This will be announced with at least 24 hours of notice, and will also be on a first-come, first-served basis.

As far as rule changes go, they have also been posted on our website. We will be allowing the usual 5-pound weight allowance, and also that alliance selection will run as per FIRST rules (rather than make alterations to the process as we have in the past). We do not anticipate any further changes.

Lastly, we are working out some of the last details of volunteer registration, but we do expect it to be open by mid-June.

Thanks!
Garrick

To any teams attending the Ruckus this year I need a favor: I need a couple of robots from previous years (preferably 2005 or 2011) to use a props at the event. Last year I had a couple of dummys at the event that we placed in broken seats. This year I would like to place the robots in the visible basement area and have the robots attacking them. It would give people the idea to stay out of the basement during the event (the two big German Sheppard that are kept down there would reinforce that point). It would keep anyone from trying to steal the dummys (someone actually tried to leave with one of them) and it would be a cool prop for the event. Let me know if you can help.

Hello Everyone! It's hard to believe we only have a little more than a month left until the 10th annual Ruckus! As we approach the event, there are few updates we would like to share.

Previously, we announced that if registration were to re-open due to spots becoming available, we would announce this at least one week in advance. Well, here is your lucky chance if you couldn't make it in the first round. Registration will re-open at 8 PM on Monday September 15th and will remain open until we have filled the vacant spots at the event and have a few additional teams queued to fill any future cancellations. Filling of open spots will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis, ordered by time of registration. All teams will be placed on a wait list and notified their registration was received. A member of our planning committee will notify the team contact within 24 hours of the registration that they are either filling an open spot or of their position on the wait list (based on time of registration and spots remaining open at the time). Currently, we presently have TWO (2) openings for teams. Teams past this initial opening quantity who register will remain on a wait list as long as they desire, kept in order by time of registration, to have the opportunity to fill any further spots that open.

Teams accepted to fill a spot must pay the registration fee in a timely manner to secure their spot. When notified that your team is filling an open spot, the planning committee member will help to make payment arrangements.
If your team is interested in filling the vacant spots, check back on this page when registration re-opens on Monday September 15th at 8 PM! This is also a reminder to registered teams that payment is the only way to secure your place on the list.

Next, we are excited to announce that we have several teams attending this year that were chosen to participate in the beta-test of the 2015 Control system. Because of the tremendous value of testing the system in a competition environment, participating teams will be permitted to use the new system if they would like. Further details are outlined on our website under the "Rules" section.

Lastly, volunteer registration is still open. The success of another amazing event depends on our awesome volunteers, and we would love for you to take part.

A member of our planning committee will notify the team contact within 24 hours of the registration that they are either filling an open spot or of their position on the wait list (based on time of registration and spots remaining open at the time). Currently, we presently have THREE (3) openings for teams. Teams past this initial opening quantity who register will remain on a wait list as long as they desire, kept in order by time of registration, to have the opportunity to fill any further spots that open.

Reminder that registration will re-open next week! At this point, there are three spots available.

That would be news to 48.

Sent an email to planning committee awhile ago stating we wished to make a final decision on Ruckus shortly after the Mahoning Valley Robotics Challenge on 9/20, well ahead of the payment deadline which was communicated to be October 3rd.

I have not heard back from anyone official since then. If we have been officially dropped due to Ruckus planning committee decision, I would have expected to receive some kind of official notification informing me of such.

Hi Travis,

The planning committee is aware of Team 48's position per your very clear communications with our registration coordinator. Right now we still consider 48 as registered (as we do all registered teams who do not tell us otherwise).

The three vacant spots we presently have do not include 48's spot - you guys are registered. We hope that 48 will continue to be able to join us in October (and I personally wish you luck with and at Mahoning Valley RC).

Just a friendly reminder that registration for a limited number of spots will re-open TOMORROW (9/15) at 8pm.

As noted earlier, registration will be reopening to fill some cancellations we've received. Registration will remain open until we have filled the vacant spots at the event and have a few additional teams queued to fill any future cancellations. This will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis, ordered by time of registration after registration re-opens. ALL Teams will be placed on a wait list and will be notified by a member of our planning committee if they are either filling an open spot or if they are in a queue to any future cancellations.

Additionally, for teams currently registered, the only way to guarantee your place on the list is to submit payment.

The 10th annual Rah Cha Cha Ruckus is now only one month away!

We've now had a few teams make it in during the second round of registration (which is still open)! We're looking forward to an awesome event for all teams, and are planning on some exciting things for this year.

Teams, 10th anniversary T-shirts will be available for pre-order though your team leader. Don't miss out, and make sure to get your orders in by October 3rd!

Are you excited yet?

Hi everyone!

It’s now October, which means Ruckus is getting closer and closer! We are getting very excited for our 10th year and looking forward to an awesome competition. Just a few updates!
October 3rd: This date is pretty important! Registration fees are due at this point. If you have not paid or have not made arrangements for payment, the committee will assume that you are not attending the 2014 Ruckus and you will be removed from the list (which is sad because we want you to have an awesome time). Additionally, food and t-shirt preorders are due. If your team wants some awesome 10th anniversary t-shirts, get your orders in ASAP!

The current team list stands at 40 teams:

Re: 2014 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus

Hello everyone!

We are only a few short days away from what is shaping up to be an awesome Ruckus!

The team list stands at 40 awesome teams including world champions, world finalists, original FRC teams, Hall of Fame teams, 2014 regional winners and more!

If you aren't excited yet, here is some more cool news. We will once again be doing Pie-in-the-Eye, where you can have a chance to throw a pie at your favorite volunteers (myself included). These tickets will be on sale for $1. We will also have old and current shirts available for $5 and $12, respectively. Who doesn't love Ruckus Swag?

Additionally, because it is the 10th Anniversary, we will also be raffling off a 2014 Game Ball signed by all 2014 participating teams! Tickets will also be available, and the winner must be present!

Lastly, we will have a 2015 Control System beta-test information table staffed by some of the beta-test teams at Ruckus. More details on this will be announced, but we hope this will be informative for the teams attending!

Remember to follow us on facebook and twitter for further exciting updates!

Are you ready to Rah Cha Cha?!

No, both of these teams declined invites from 2852. Additionally, the 3rd robot on #1 was 3951, not 3941.

Awesome staff, super cool idea (a robotics competition in a historic armory near Halloween weekend!!!) and great competition, those are just a few of the many reasons we have enjoyed Rah Cha Cha Ruckus.

thank you for doing that for the community. Happy 10th anniversary!

This was an awesome event with an amazing group of volunteers working it. 5254 will definitely try to attend Ruckus next year.

Sorry to teams 20 and 1511 for our lack of doing anything in eliminations. I was so excited for our alliance and became very disappointed when our robot broke down.

Team 610: The Coyotes had a great time at the 2014 Rah Cha Cha Ruckus Off-season event, and would like to thank all the organizers and planners who were involved. The tournament was a lot of fun, and we had a great time competing!

Thanks to our alliance partners 378 and our old friends 1241. They were both great teams to work with and compete with. We would also like to congratulate 1126, 1114, and 3951 for some great final matches!
Thank You,
