Sacramento Offseason Competition

Introducing Capital City Classic, an offseason competition in the Sacramento Area hosted by Team 2073 Eagleforce and Team 3859 WolfPack, formerly known as Powerhouse Pwnage. The competition will be a replay of the 2014 FRC Game, Aerial Assist. Here is some important information:

Date: September 19th and 20th (19th is strictly load-in and practice, teams are not required to show up on the 19th)

Location: Pleasant Grove High School
9531 Bond Road
Elk Grove, CA 95624

Capacity: 36 ROBOTS

Registration: $250 (due date TBD)

We will also, once again, be featuring a set of female-only drive team exhibition matches before eliminations.

Teams are more than welcome to enter up to three robots to compete, and slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. A discount will be available for teams that enter more than one robot. Teams can register here. More information regarding the competition will be available soon, but feel free to message me and see if I can answer your question. We look forward to seeing all of you here in September!

P.S. If Team 254 competes at the event, every mentor will receive a complimentary corn dog!

Out of curiosity, why the name change? Can't wait for CCC this fall.

Re: Sacramento Offseason Competition

We changed the name because last year a sponsor called powerhouse science museum gave money to help us host the event. This was a one time deal. Team 2073 decided to fund the offseason competition and rename it. Capital City Classic (CCC) will be exciting, and have tons of #SWAGFUN!

1678 will definitely be in attendance to support our local off-season event! Thanks for putting this on, and I'm digging the name change.

Side note: All these corndogs are gonna go straight to my hips! Really hoping MTTD doesn't have corndogs as well, or I'm in trouble...

We could use some help spreading the word. We know that not every team has someone constantly on Chief Delphi. If you have contacts with teams in California (or possibly even further!) please share the link with them!

1678 just did an interview with Fox40 news Sacramento and they said they would be willing to publicize the event. Get in touch with us and we'll pass along the information.

We need to update our webcast team (three key seniors are leaving). Then we should talk over the summer.

When will you be sending out requests for volunteers? Also, has the team arrived on a final cost, and when does the money need to be mailed?

The volunteer request will go out at the same time that the email regarding payment will go out, which will be sometime this week. The final cost will be $250 for the initial robot. We will be deciding on what the cost for second robots will be tomorrow and sending out the emails shortly after. Payments are going to be accepted online and by mail-in check. The payment, however, will not be due until August 19th. Look for more information in an email later this week.

We still have spots left! Registration closes August 1st! So if your team wants to compete, register ASAP!

Also, we are still in need of volunteers, especially referees, scorekeepers, and pit admin personnel! Let me know of you are interested in volunteering.

Team Tators is looking forward to some good competition as we prepare to return to Norcal for an off-season outing. Big thanks to 2073 for hosting the event, hope to have some fun with your team both on and off the field. We anticipate bringing two robots to the event, our 2014 competition robot and a newly developed design. Eager to see the full roster of teams....

We were planning to release the final team list today, however, we have extended the registration closing date to August 19th to allow for space to fill.

If you are using the 40" balls, Tators may have to dust off the 2008 flop bot...

Oh man! I loved that robot! I recall you won an award for that design and subsequently they patched the rules so you can't do that kind of thing anymore.

That's the one. NH got a call to weigh in on the legality of the design before we could compete.

The Tator wagon is loaded and will be on the road at noon for a leisurely trip to Sacramento. Excited for the opportunity to play with some friends as well as to meet some new teams.

As we are bringing a small crew, has there been an update re: a webcast of the event?

Andrew, you earn the big donut award! Yes this ball will be used for the secret in game. Details will be provided at the tournament.
If any other teams still have this ball from Overdrive (2008) , please bring it. It will help in case our 1 ball explodes.

Unfortunately, twitch has implemented an IP address-wide ban, and we cannot stream using other streaming services, so unless twitch unbans us we cannot stream.

Edit: We started a new stream on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLybS5SMKVg

I would love to hear why you guys got banned. Does it have to do with Copyrighted Music?

No, we were actually able to stream on YouTube without problem because of the lack of music. We believe that the ban had to do with non-video game content, though some other FRC channels have managed to avoid this.

It's odd that they would issue an IP ban, rather than a user ban for that though.

The results:

Winning Alliance: 1678/2122/9073

Gracious Professionalism Award: 1671
Innovative Design Award: 1678
Innovative Control System Award: 2122
#Swag Award: 2085

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success, I would thank you all personally but I'm on my phone. We loved having everyone here once again.

P.S. 2122, 1671, 1678, and 2085 are like the coolest teams ever. Not to put any other teams down, but these guys were seriously awesome!!

Two things I'll say about CCC:

1) Our pre-rookie team from Woodland (operating under 9678) had such a blast at their first FRC event that they are figuring out how to come with us to MTTD in a few months!

2) We love seeing our friends from Idaho, Team TATORS! Thanks for making the huge trek to compete in CA. It's been fun to play on the same side of the glass two years in a row. Come back this spring so we can make it a hat trick! ;)

I actually missed most of the event, but I'm very proud of our students that stepped up to fill key roles on our team and help out other teams throughout the event.

Thanks to everyone who worked this event. Special shout out to Andrew Nabors for working his tail off behind the scenes to get all robots FMS connected. You rock Nabors!

I'm doing this on my cell phone with my sausage fingers, so I'll keep it short.

I want to echo Michael's comments. This was a great tournament because of the support we received from so many people. 2073 can not thank you enough!

1678 once again demonstrated why they are such a fantastic team, both on and off the field.
With the final pick during alliance selection, they chose 9073, our practice team robot driven by a rookie drive team. This robot had been having some intermittent issues. 1678 flooded our pit with people and worked with us to get both the robot and the drive team up to speed so they could be a contributing player on a tournament winning alliance. THANK YOU!!

One question. Does any one know where I can find the video of the match where 2073 snipped an opposing alliance truss shot out of mid air?

Thanks for the shoutout Mike, I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't enjoy it. I'm glad everything worked out and ran smoothly for the event. I would like to extend the shoutout to Michael Adam and Rick Durante for running the system and helping cycle the field as quickly as possible. And of course, can't forget about the team who helped put CheesyArena together and Austin for helping troubleshoot issues during setup.

Overall just wanted to say that 1671 had a great time at the event. It was a relaxing but still competitive event (nice for a change) to allow new team members and leaders to really jump in and take charge and most importantly learn to prepare themselves for the upcoming season.

See you at Madtown Throwdown!

Absolutely!! Without all the volunteers, this event would not have been as successful as it was.

Andrew, I could not have described it any better! From the very first time EagleForce and WolfPack met to discuss putting on a tournament in Sacramento, having a relaxed, yet competitive, learning environment was our goal. I could not be happier that our goal is recognized in how the event plays out. THANK YOU!!

:D

Huge thanks to our gracious hosts (and all volunteers) for planning and running such a great event! We had an awesome time competing and playing with all of our friends down in Cali (and of course making new friends as well).

I personally enjoyed coaching the 2122 drive team along with 1678 and 9073 in eliminations. Y'all are an awesome bunch, very fun to play and strategize with! Those veteran drivers on 2073 had better watch out for the rookie drivers in this winter's driver tryouts.

We also loved seeing our students, both rookies and experienced veterans, stepping up and taking responsibility in crucial roles and staying cool under pressure despite the intense pace of qualifications and eliminations. It was definitely a great learning and growing experience for all involved.

We're all hoping to make the trek down to Cali again next year!

After returning to the Tator shed we held a debrief during which we realized that we somehow missed getting a video of match 15.
