Summer Design Competition: Looking for a GDC
 

Hello Chief Delphi. Last December, a few friends and I made a design competition for offseason practice in game analysis and robotic design. We received a lot of very positive feedback from it and would like to do it again for the summer. Last time there were only three of us and we hashed out the whole project in a few days, but this year we want to form an official Game Design Committee and spend more time developing the game and the rules to ensure that the competition and the theoretical game is more fun and enjoyable (we want Ultimate Ascent at Einstein, not Aerial Assist week 2. Get what we're saying?).

So Wasay Anwer (Drive coach of Team 668 who helped make the game last time) and I are looking for 5 driven and innovative minds to help form our game design committee. If you are interested in applying for this position, please fill out this short survey, and we hope to choose the final team by the end of this month.

The positions are open to anyone and everyone, and we will be looking for a variety of knowledge and experience levels to form our team (you won't need 6 years of experience and knowledge of every single game to be considered for a position, and having those won't necessarily make you a guaranteed pick).

Also, if you have any suggestions for how the competition is run (no game-specific suggestions, leave that to the GDC), please feel free to post them here.

Question: I live in Tennessee, will this require meeting together? Because no offends but I'm not going to fly/drive to California for it, though I don't exspect that you thought I would :)

Expect most, if not all of it to be done online.
Meetings will be over chat/skype.

I suspect Allen from 3847 would be a great candidate for this! They actually designed a game last fall!

I would suggest reaching out to people that have had previous experience in designing games. Both the VEX GDC (Jim Zondeg, Karthik, etc.) and the OCCRA GDC (Jim again, Dan Kimura, Mike Martus, etc.) would be places to start. I know Evan Morrison from 1983/GameSense has mentioned things about game design on his show as well.

Submitted. I've had lots of fun in past years helping with FRC 190's Savage Soccer games, would love to give this a shot.

Wow. A lot of extremely impressive applications so far. It's going to be tough choosing, but with the pool of amazing applicants I'm sure we're going to have a great game.
