Re: The First Seven Days of the Season
Our team meets as a whole team(mostly is team leads and more involved members) and talks through the merits of the prototypes and what strategys we could use with them. Dicuss what subsystems compliment eachther, etc.

I'll share G3 Robotics's method here, in a brief outline. Kickoff: Mainly focus on game and game strategy. We try to nail down expected cycle times and set goals for how long we should take to achieve a certain task. Kickoff+1: Revise strategy talks and talk about robot designs. Everyone gets a chance to speak and we narrow down our prototyping plans. Kickoff+2: Prototyping groups begin prototyping various ideas. Lead designers continue strategy discussion and begin working prototypes into basic CAD sketches to test for feasibility. Kickoff+3-5: Prototyping groups continue doing their work. Successful prototyping groups are given the go-ahead to order parts and finalize prototypes as much as possible. Failed prototyping groups are disbanded and asked to move onto other aspects of the robot or help out on other prototyping groups. The design leadership will take the results of the prototyping groups when creating the final design. Kickoff+6: Repeat the above step, but the team is making headway towards a final product. As items get finalized, they are placed into CAD. At this point in the season, we usually have 1-2 prototyping groups per subsystem and the DT and robot dimensions have been finalized. My main qualm with this system is that the transition from prototyping to final building and design is a little bit difficult. The team seemed to spend too long "prototyping" rather than settling on something and then trying to refine it. - Sunny G. |
