Dedicated many restore sanity.........

Engineer on team #237, sie h2o bots, from Watertown high school ct and sieman co. To those of you who read and replied to my rambling "Dedicated Few" Posting I wish to thank you. I wrote that when I was very down and disgusted with our so called Leaders, im not usualy like that but lack of sleep for 50 hours seems to effect me for some strange reason. Rich, Anton, Ken, David, Patrick, and Matt restored some of my faith in the good end of FIRST and reminded me of what its all about, I think that deep down I needed the reasurance of others that I was not alone in my plight, your responses were very comforting and helped me get over my slump. Im still not pleased nor do I except the non dedication of the rest of the adult team "except Steve who gave more than me" as exceptable. It seems that other teams have the same problem each year and if they can survive then I can too can be as "nutty" as the rest. Thanks again for everyones help. See you all in Hartford and Florida, assuming I dont self desruct prior. nick237 |

But these are innermost feelings that are burrowed deep in our subconsciousness, hence it comes out when we are burnt out and down. But that's why we're here, moral support. Take it easy and take a nice big vacation Nick. (that's what I did). See ya at Hartford and FLLLLOOORIDAAA! :) -anton ps. my turn to bi*ch. what i hate most is after crunch time, when the remaining "leaders" finish the job, and the team begins to gain glory for the job that was completed.....suddenly out of nowhere, the old team leaders show up trying to have a piece of the pie. It will happen, I assure you. It happened to me. Take heed and be ready for those who might take some of your glory, if not all. |

Posted by Rich on 02/25/2001 6:39 PM EST: About building a second robot outside the 6 week... I am not so sure, but isn't that against the rules that you may only construct robot and spare parts during the 6 week? This way, all the teams have equal amount of practice time, instead of teams capable of building a second robot having more time to practice while others doesn't... |
Should be o.k.

Engineer on team #177, Bobcat Robotics, from South Windsor High School and International Fuel Cells. In Reply to: second robot Posted by Ken Leung on 02/26/2001 3:18 PM EST: Ken, Building a second robot is legal (as far as I know) as long as parts for the second machine that were completed after the ship date are not used as spares for the "real" robot. I guess the way I see it, spending post ship time completing a second robot is no different than spending it working on scouting tools and other strategy aides. If you have the resources and dedication to do it, then go nuts. P.J. Team #177 |

Posted by Justin Rolnick on 02/25/2001 10:06 PM EST: The day of shipping is always a valley in terms of my spirits. All the tough times are behind you and yet you have had very little positives to balance things out. On top of this is the fact that the machine always works so much better in my head than in real life AND everyone else's machine looks so good and prefect in those web pictures everyone posts. Add massive sleep deprivation in to the mix and it is a wonder more folks don't explode. Keep the faith. FIRST is worth it... ...and I see some hills up ahead! Joe J. It is eno |
