R2OC Offseason Event

The Rock River Off-Season Competition will be taking place on July 26th in Rockford, IL. This will be the second year of the event, and last year was fantastic!

This year the field of teams has grown since last year and it has attracted some fantastic teams from the past season such as 1625, 2338, 2826, and 111!

We (2451) will be attending for the second year and we would love to see as many teams attend as possible! Come visit the northern Illinois area and participate in an awesome event. The link to the event website is below, where you can register and get more information.

We still have a few spots left before we hit our cap of 32 teams for Rock River Off-Season Competition. Would love to see a few more of our Midwest friends on July 26 - even if it's with a small contingent!

If you are or know of a pre-rookie team - let us know if you'd like to compete and we'll see what we can do to hook you up with a robot!

Details at http://www.r2oc.org/registration.html

Go robots!

I'm not sure if we have registered yet, but 1732 is looking forward to attending this year.

John,

I know Karen touched with you guys earlier, but we haven't seen your registration come through yet. We were hoping you were going to be able to join us!

July 26 - R2OC Offseason Event

We've got 3 spots left for the 2nd annual Rock River Off-Season - great mix of teams (including 2 from Einstein and a couple of other top teams from Champs!) and a great venue in Rockford IL.

If you have been "thinking" about signing up - do it! We'd love to get to 32 teams - all teams will be playing in the elimination rounds!

Even if you've got a small contingent available this is a great event to get some of the younger kids involved - we'll have plenty of folks to help with robots, etc.

Check out the website at www.r2oc.org or email me at team1625@gmail.com if you have questions.

POLLY

P.S We have a great team social planned for Friday night too!

I'm excited for this. A few guys and I on our team spent a week tearing our robot down to the chassis and rebuilding it from the ground up just to get it back to specs from our first regional. Lets rock.

Can't wait to see how everyone does - some are rebuilding back to original and some are trying some new tricks! That's what the offseason is for.

Re: R2OC Offseason Event

Only 2 spots left - even if you only have a skeleton crew consider heading out to compete. We'll have plenty of folks on hand to help small contingents!

Looks like we've got a full field of 32 teams from 5 states for Saturday's 2nd annual Rock River Off-Season. Looking forward to Tyler Olds joining John Petrick for emcee duties this year. And just might have a few other surprises lined up too.

Fun and games Friday night for the kids (and mentors) - Giant Jenga and Rubik's Cube, bags tournament, plus a chance to do the science experiments we usually just get to watch the elementary kids do at our kids' camp.

This was a great competition. It was a shame that our robot was not up to full working condition for most of the day but I think most off-season competitons have a higher level of skill and this one in particular was really amazing.
I was wondering if the quadcopter footage will be uploaded to youtube for people to see because that was really amazing as well?

Really Great event, this was my first time going. It is hard to believe the whole thing happens in one day when you finally get back. Great list of teams and it ran smoothly throughout.

Re: R2OC Offseason Event

We had a great day on Saturday. Thanks to all the participants and our amazing volunteers. Special shout out to Evan who stepped in at the last minute to help us out as a referee.

We amped up the visual this year with 4 different camera angles, including one from within the truss. Brent and Seth set up a split screen view for auton that gave everyone a great view of both goals.

As for the quad copters, we had hoped to incorporate their feeds into the live stream but weren't able to this year; we did show the footage in the arena. In addition to a neat game perspective they provided a welcome breeze for the field reset crew and referees. I'll check on getting the footage posted to YouTube (no promises).

We collected over 600 books for our community connection, Reach Out and Read; thanks to FRC Team 1747, Harrison Boiler Robotics, for hauling several hundred from Indiana. They won a copy of "The New Cool." We also collected two crates of used tools which will be donated to FIRST teams in our area that are not well equipped for the upcoming build season.

Congratulations to our finalists: led by 2451 PWNAGE with 1732 Hilltoppers; 1646 Precision Guessworks; 3936 Michigan City Robotics.

The 2014 R2OC Champions were the first seeded alliance: led by 2481 Roboteers with 1625, Winnovation, 4096, Ctrl-Z and 3353 Flaming Monkeys 2.

The 2014 Making It Loud award was given to Patrick Murphy, Belvidere Township Supervisor, for his work in promoting FIRST Robotics and STEM education in our local area and across the state of Illinois.

Thank you to our major sponsors UTC Aersopace Systems, Woodward, and Greenlee, along with our facility, Rock Valley College. And a special shout out to Superior Joining Technologies for making our custom event trophies along with our annual "Making it Loud" trophy.

I just wanted to reiterate a huge thank you to the organizers and volunteers for the R2OC event. We had a great time and made a lot of new friends. A special shout out to our alliance partners: 1625, Winnovation, 4096, Ctrl-Z and 3353, Flaming Monkeys 2. You guys were great partners and executed like pros. Congratulations to 2451 PWNAGE, 1732 Hilltoppers, 1646 Precision Guessworks, 3936 Michigan City Robotics on being finalist. It is always an honor to share the field with you. We look forward to seeing all of you at future competitions.

Re: R2OC Offseason Event

After having a conflict last year, I'm glad we were able to come down and attend R2OC this year. It was a very well run event, especially for just a second year offseason. I'm sure it will be a mainstay in our team's summer plans (especially if teams from Indiana continue to attend after they move to districts).

Thanks for 2541, 1646 and 3936 for being great alliance partners. Congrats to the winning alliance of 2481, 1625 (one of these days we will beat you in eliminations...), 4096, 3353.
