Help Us Help You

Hello,

In 2012 Code Orange released a series of FRC electronics tutorial videos that have now been viewed over 5,000 times. We are very happy to have helped so many, and we want to continue to make electronics (and maybe other things) easier for all teams.

We were chosen to beta-test the new NI roboRIO and plan on updating the tutorial videos accordingly (Thanks for choosing us!).

This post is about gathering YOUR opinion on what other tutorial videos the FRC community could use. As of now we have a list of possibilities, but we want to hear what other teams would like to see. Please comment below with some ideas. Maybe something your team had difficulty with last year, or something new you want to learn about. I am looking for subjects like "how to program this sensor in LabView", or "how to setup the router."

Thanks!

Some prelim thoughts:
  • Procedure to update a roboRIO acquired from another team. We had a rough time with a cRIO (day of bashing not getting anywhere, next day it magically works). So, if there is anything IP-wise or whatnot to be aware of if we ever have this happen again.
  • How to deploy code to roboRIO.
  • Best practices for wiring things to roboRIO, mounting locations, etc.

How about Solidwork tips/tricks? Or Solidworks basics?

I'd like to see an addition/expansion to the Sensors Used in FRC video, for things like potentiometers, other popular encoders (which might be wired differently), hall effect sensors, etc. A walkthrough of PID/other control methods on the software side, perhaps with some robot demonstrations (e.g. with and without feedback), would also be nice.

This isn't a video, but CAD models of the CTRE parts that at least include the mounting holes and approximate size would be great.

Thanks for the suggestions! An expanded sensor video with programming tutorials is in the pipeline. The videos likely won't be published until mid September because of roboRIO availability.

That's an idea!

I'll put that on our list!

Also, the roboRIO CAD models are available HERE.

Programming a bang bang speed controller using the roboRIO.While my team does plan to work on this *we're also beta testing* , I would LOVE to see a team like yours also do this. If you want, pm me and we could work on setting up something to compare results.
