Re: Registration 2015

For just the team list, going through FRClinks seems to work out, try this: Team List

I believe you are correct. Right now only the close-to-home opt-in teams seem to be listed.

Correlating with the 1st Event Registration – How Boring Was That? FRC Blog post, it appears that at midnight ~70 to 75 teams were waitlisted.
Some of these must have been due to MI teams opting out of the home event, but there were also 10 full events that were accumulating waitlists by that time.

I gotta say, nearly 24 hours after registration opened, FIRST really rocked it. No issues with getting registered so far. As someone who characterized HQ's web presence as something

I was super impressed and I'm looking forward to second/unrestricted registration and FIRST Choice now instead of dreading it.

I'm very pleased with how event registration went, but I'm still a tad skeptical about FIRST Choice....I'd hope HQ and AndyMark are planning on running a series of test runs before the madness ensues.

Now, if we could just have the same level of success with booking hotels through the as yet to be identified booking agency for FIRST this year on the first day(which also has not been identified yet)...

In the end 1st choice worked pretty well. I expect issues with it helped to make this years registration better. I don't think anybody wants a repeat of last years debacle. :]

In case anyone's still curious about this...

The query expressions appended to index.lasso only work if you have an active session with the server and if you send the http request with the appropriate headers. These headers should include both a cookie with your session ID, as well as the headers:
Code:

host: my.usfirst.org
referer: https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?event_type=FRC&year=2015

or some variation of these (I didn't rigorously test for what is required, I just mimicked the headers in Chrome's logs until it worked).

Then you can send a request to:
Code:

https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=event_details&eid=[Event ID]
with your Event ID. Or you can request any other data. A list of Event IDs that I scraped from the event listing can be found at:
https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/siekm...Cdata/eids.csv

I wrote a python script that scrapes all the event details and builds a table in html. For example, this was scraped at ~11:00am EST on Friday, 9/26:
https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/siekm...ata/table.html

If I can find access to a webserver, I could put up a page that updates this table a few times every hour. However, processing 100+ separate https requests takes nearly a minute, so it's obviously a better idea for usfirst.org to aggregate this data for us and make it available with a single request...

Re: Registration 2015

Yes, the event pages now require a Referer header that contains the string "usfirst.org", otherwise they show up blank.

FRCLinks gets around this by adding an intermediate redirect to another frclinks.com URL that happens to contain "usfirst.org".

If you're getting data programmatically instead of in the browser, it's pretty easy to get around this. E.g:
Code:

curl -H "Referer: usfirst.org" "https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teamlist&event_type=FRC&sort_teams=number&year=2015&event=casj"

It appears even with the Referer header, the event_details page always reads eid as invalid, until a different page (such as another frclinks request or a request directly to my.usfirst.org) establishes a cookie. This cookie also needs to be supplied to the event_details page, while it's not needed for other requests.

AND YES. I have quite a sore spot on my head from figuring out why it wasn't working. Thanks a ton.

Last year, 1800 teams were registered by 12:55pm on 30 Sep; if my notes are correct. So it looks like registration is running 4 days ahead of last year.

I logged in around 11:57 eastern and was able to register. Did it open early, or are my clocks slow?

Mark McLeod 27-09-2014 10:06

Re: Registration 2015

It opened on time according to NIST & USNO
You can check your clocks against that.
