I think he is being fair by considering "all" bribes.

Yes, but the blind bidding really helps "level the playing field" it also increase bribe amounts which are what fund judges dinners :P

(In case anyone thinks this is serious, it's completely a joke.)

Ooh, field reset sounds like fun. It says it is for a minimum of two days, though. It's the first time their for most of them, and we also need to:
  • hit the FRC/FTC pits to meet other teams (and learn from them!)
  • Innovation Fair
  • Attend a few specific sessions at the Championship Conference
  • watch matches (which can be accomplished while doing field reset)
  • probably see a few sights

If we could do it for one day, that would be ideal, but maybe we need to sign up for safety glasses or something else with a one-day commitment.

Any other one-day items for teens? I've checked the list:

http://www.usfirst.org/community/vol...vent-positions

and it's not obvious which other ones are or are not (for teens), in most cases.

Also, are the shifts basically the entire day? (For instance, could one leave one's post for an hour or so to attend a conference session -- with approval of their lead volunteer, of course -- and come back?) I am just trying to put together an itinerary, and am not sure what to expect. Thanks!

I can't speak for Championships for sure, but generally lead volunteers are very accomodating for things like Field Reset, where there are often a surplus of bodies on the field anyway. This weekend I've needed to leave 10K Lakes Regional several times to attend class, and it's never been an issue, as I made sure to talk with our field supervisor ahead of time.

Field reset is a great time, especially if you like watching matches-- I'd definitely recommend it.

You might want to ask if one three-day commitment (Thurs-Sat) can be split among a few members of your team (each student works a few hours each day). They would all need to be at orientation/training.

Great idea. I sent off the request yesterday - haven't heard back, yet.

Though, not quite doing as many events as you are Ed.

At the Indiana District Champs, they announced Ed had volunteered over 50 events... :ahh:

Official events? I'd believe that number. Once you start counting off seasons though? No way, he's way higher.

Such dedication means you deserve a Volunteer of the Year award ! Congrats on receiving exactly that !

I believe the official count was 51 events, but I'd have to log into VMS to check.

That's how I totaled the volunteer years at InF District State Champs: through VMS. They had some impressive numbers.

Offseason events were explicitly not counted (because there isn't any sort of authoritative count of them).

Ed's total has to be higher. I think my own is around 40 official and maybe a dozen or so unofficial, beginning 2002. Ed's got me beat by a large margin.

How far back did you check? I'm not sure how far back VMS goes.

I would have thought we'd was higher as well. I'm going to hit 15 official events by the end of this year, and he's been doing it so much longer than I have!
