Someone please apply to Syracuse! Despite being ranked the #1 party school, we are also very highly ranked in many academic fields. 58th nationally by US World News, absolutely amazing financial aid, amazing resources for students, awesome entertainment, and free MakerSpaces for both STEM and non-STEM majors.

(I just need more robotics people so we can start a team! :) )

Gonna chime in with the same message re: Clarkson University. I went there for my undergrad, spent 4 fantastic years involved in many things on campus - but things that might most appeal to ChiefDelphi people are the exclusive housing for FIRST outreach, the opportunity to work with FIRST as well as many other robotics platforms at many different levels, the scholarships, and the abundance of FIRST alumni on campus. Feel free to ask me anything!

Same goes for WPI, though I am a grad student and don't see as much campus life- at least I know the area. :)

I automatically get into a UC since I am within the top 4 percent at my school. But my back up is UCSD.

You might want to be careful with that statement. You don't automatically get into a UC that you have applied to, you are just guaranteed a spot in a school that's a part of the UC system. If what you said were true, then everybody in the top 4% (top 9% at my school) would just apply to Cal (or UCLA or UCSD) and nowhere else.

Art schools anyone? I went to Columbia College Chicago. It's great for film and media arts. Their television program is one of the best in the nation! If anyone is interested in film school let me know and I can talk to you about some of them.

The people who get automatically accepted get dumped at UC Merced :rolleyes: I mean there is one advantage to coming out here (you get to work with a hella awesome team).

I'm planning on going for Mechanical Engineering, and possibly the BS/BA double major program.

EDIT: I saw some commentary on the decreasing value of FIRST experience to colleges in the 2014 thread, so I want to add that I received a letter of congratulations from my application's readers that contained two handwritten notes. Both addressed my "dedication to robotics" as an important factor in their decision. Given that robotics-related avenues are my only big-time extracurriculars, I think that shows (anecdotally, at least) that FIRST still means something in colleges' eyes.

I second the whole art school thing, but I went for Industrial Design at SCAD, which I believe is also one of the best in the nation. Their machine shop would also make most FIRST-ers drool ;)

I have applied and been contacted multiple times by Kettering. Do you have any suggestions to afford going to the school? I applied as a mechanical engineer.

Here are two of Kettering's pages on expected cost and scholarships. The merit scholarship, which is automatically available for anyone who meets the academic requirements, can cover up to $15,500 per year, and there are other scholarships available directly from the school. After that, don't let the high price scare you quite as much, because remember that you'll be working six months a year (and getting better pay than just some fill-your-time college job), so you'll have more money available to put back into your tuition than you would at other schools. Overall, the price isn't as bad as it looks.

Three of us(that I know of) from my team are attending Florida Polytechnic University. I know this is a long shot, since they just opened this fall, but is anyone else attending?

Hi Cory! Im a 2014 Deans List finalist from Holland Michigan team 141, and I recently was accepted by WPI , I've never been to WPI ,but at Worlds this last year, I met with a rep and I really appreciated what WPI had to offer. I wondered if you could please give me me a perspective on what the robotics labs are like and how easy it is to find co-op opportunities through WPI. I'm interested in majoring in bio-medical engineering. Thank You!

Hmm, didn't know you were a Kettering Alum... learn something new.

Another anecdotal story about affording Kettering:

Scholarships are wonderful, between them and a chunk of my coop earnings I paid for Kettering with 0 student loans. There's also less fear of student loans having a fairly good chance of graduating with employment. I walked at Kettering with an employment offer already accepted. They paid to move me across the country 3 days later.

This was SLIGHTLY more recent than Mr Lim. My brother graduated in 2013 and has a similar story. So, basically, I'd say it's possible to make it affordable.

For those of you at WPI, what is the financial aid like over there? Does the accelerated BS/MS in Robotics Engineering qualify you for grad school fellowships in addition to undergrad scholarships? I've been looking at the program since last year as a sophomore, but I'm not sure I can afford 4 years, let alone 5, at a university where tuition is over 2/3 of my family's annual income.
