Labview and windows 8, having issues

Hello guys, our team just got our brand new programming laptop which is a Toshiba satellite that's on WIN 8, 64bit, and I'm having some issues. If I put in the FRC 2014 install disk, I can run it and start the installs fine, but it always skips right over the labview 2013 install and tries to install the rest and then says I need labview installed first, but it just skips right over it, doesn't even attempt to install it. The screen comes up and then starts initializing the next install. So I just kind of ignored this and went to the NI site to download it instead, but the downloader will not connect no matter what I do, and the firewall is completely off. So I got out a fresh WIN 7 Lenovo thinkpad t500 and put in the disk and it worked perfectly, and the NI downloaders work perfect. Anyone know what's up with this windows 8 problem? It seems to be fighting me every step...

Thanks guys!

I have a few suggestions.

First, see if Windows thinks it is already installed. Launch the Add/Remove Programs panel, Choose the NI Software, and see if LabVIEW 2013 is in the list and what state it is in.

I would also suggest trying the installation again, but this time as administrator. It is a bit odd on Win8, but you still initiate it with a right-click, but you choose the administrative option on the bottom I think.

Please post back if you are still having issues. There should be folks in the office Monday, and we should be able to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for the ideas, I tried running install disk as admin and the NI downloader as admin but I still get the exact same results. The program files have not a trace of anything from NI in it, and the programs manager doesn't see anything either.

I've seen this problem as well with one of our new students with a Win 8 laptop. Fortunately, the Beta Software we're testing for next year was able to install correctly.

So should I keep this laptop put away and just wait until the 2015 season starts and the new software releases? Or should I just install windows 7? It would be awesome if we could keep the windows 8 on there and have all the new software work correctly, thanks for the info, glad I'm not alone :)

Did not expect this. My friend and I both have Windows 8.1 and LabVIEW installed for us without a problem. We installed from the downloaded installation files instead of the disk, and that might make a difference. Since the downloader doesn't work, try transferring the downloaded installation files from another computer to your Windows 8 laptop and install from those. I'm interested to hear how well this goes. I hope you get it working.

Worth a shot, I'll let you know what happens, thanks :)

I know that it worked just fine for me.

Tried it from the downloaded folder and ran the autorun install. I'm still having the same problem as before, it skips over the labview install nd goes right to the runtime install and gives an error saying labview is needed first

Are you maybe executing the autorun from within the zip file?
Sometimes people don't think they have to unpack it first.

It's unzipped and sitting on my desktop as a normal folder, that's where I ran the autorun.exe from

Your best bet might be to contact NI directly:
Quote:

Support.
You can get support year round on the FRC Discussion Forums. National Instruments will be monitoring the forums to help answer any LabVIEW or cRIO questions that may arise.
If you need to replace or purchase a cRIO please call 866-511-6285.
If you don't see the info you are looking for on this community please contact FIRST@ni.com
Something in your Win8 is disturbing it.
All anti-virus (in fact anything you can possibly turn off) is disabled?

You can try running just the LabVIEW 2013 installer to see if you can get an error code of some sort.

Go to Distributions->LabVIEW 2013 and run setup.exe directly.
