VEXpro 2015 Product line launch

Since the launch is tomorrow, how does everyone feel about it and what do you expect? I am hoping for thicker 1x1" for sure. VersaPlans. for a cim and mini cim wouldn't be a bad upgrade either. I haven't seen any details on the time it will be shown or a link; if someone knows let me know please.

I'm hoping for more ball shifter gear sizes, GT2 profile VersaPulleys, more durable W-tread, maybe more VersaPulley sizes. A COTS camera mount with pan and tilt would be nice. I hope they keep everything the same with the versaplanetary. I love that whole product line.

Maybe they'll let Aren go nuts and make a Vex swerve system.

The vex swerve....that might be something crazy awesome!

Im personally hoping for some more all in one hex wheels to eliminate the need to use the versahubs.

Re: VexPro 2015 Product line launch

I only have 1 wish, and its better WCP shifters. I don't like the ball shifters because of how deep they are in a WCD, and the current WCP shifters have some problems. Mainly, I would like to see a 3 CIM shifter using the 3 CIM SS plates. Great ratios, compact, and a generally nice and simple design. A flat 254 style shifter would be cool too for options, but I'd prefer the other one more.

Re: VexPro 2015 Product line launch

I'm hoping they add an option for a steel shifting shaft for the ball shifter with an improved encoder mounting setup. An electronic shifting module (perhaps using one of the vex pro motors). A passive breakout board for the roboRIO. I'm sure they'll surprise us.

Out of curiosity, what problems do you have with the WCP shifters? Also if you tried packaging the 3 CIM DS in SS plates there would be no room for a shifting cylinder with the current setup.

8 months?!?! We build robots in 6 weeks! Surely professionals can revamp entire product lines in 24 hours, right? :-P

Re: VexPro 2015 Product line launch

Please... 3/8" hex bore versahubs.
I didn't want these before, but afer dealing with some 3/8" hex in some recent designs, they would be great.
I mean, there's 3/8" hex shaft, bearings, collars, and gears. But no versahubs, which is like the backbone of Vex IMO. It just doesn't logically follow.
Anyway, I can't wait to see the new stuff. Always cool to see all the new stuff.

The 3 CIM is too tall, and I don't like the reversal on the 3rd cim. Also I'm not a huge fan of the ratios it works with. A 50t cluster gear would be much better then a 42t cluster gear.

And the cylinder does fit. I cadded it earlier in the summer. It's tight, and it would only work with the vex pancakes they have, but it does fit.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what's new. I hope there's a surprise or two in there.

More gear and sprocket options would never hurt my feelings. Neither would more VersaWheel options.

If we could buy any even numbered 20 DP gear from 12T to 84T, would that be awesome or would it take some of the fun out of gearbox design?

Oooooh on the gear note add some 7075 internal gears to the list. Like 60t, 72t, 84t. With addendum mods to mesh with normal 14.5* 20p gears. That would be like gearbox heaven I swear.

Tell me that I can actually buy new talons and victors and I'll be pretty happy. Also game to see some advances in the WCP lineup. We are purposely waiting on some major purchases just to see what Vex does.

Yep, we are putting in our order tomorrow instead of today in case we want to switch anything around. Now only if Vex's site could keep everything in my cart for longer than a day :/

Re: VexPro 2015 Product line launch

The Night Before VEXmas

'Twas the night before VEXmas, and all through the world,
not a metal stock was polished, nor burnished, nor knurled.
The credit cards lay on the tables with care,
in hopes that low prices soon would be there.

The students put away their computers and CAD
And dreamt of VEXPro and the fun to be had
And all the team's tools and the number 10 tap
Had all gone to their drawers for a pre-season nap.

When inside Chief Delphi arose such a clatter
I sprang to the web to see what was the matter
From Chrome to the webpage I flew like a flash
And went to the forums, my refresh button mashed

A post, at the top of the general forum
Took only one look and had sent my heart soaring
When what to my engineer's eyes should appear
But the words in the title, "VEXPro finally here!"

With a jerk of my arm I had made my mouse click
Excited to find out what products I'd pick
More rapid than Tumbleweed the page did load
As the names of each product appeared in the code:

"VEX Gearbox!", "VEX Chassis!", "VEX Motor and Piston!"
"VersaFrame!", "VersaBlock!", "New 2-speed transmission!"
"To the top of the pick list!", "Designed by Paul!"
"Does more for less! More for less? More for you all!"

As we wait for game hints, speculation is high
And there’s a sixty inch box in the kit, oh why?
And while down in Greenville, they might not have a clue,
There’s pallets of parts, and cardboard JVNs too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The sound of blue banners, and of many a poof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
In a flash full of swag, EJ came with a bound.

He was covered in corn dogs, from head to the knees,
And as if not enough, he requested more please.
A suite of products he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
And each gearbox package was drawn up with a bow,
As he shuffled ‘round the room - for style, you know?

He dished out the new Victors, each stocking a sheath,
But only after placing a Talon beneath.
He lay down new wheels, and a box full of gears
The sound of the metal was music to my ears!

He brought new electronics, placed them on the shelf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and as he passed by my mill,
He put down a swerve, made by the Aren Hill.

He spoke not a word, but went back to his work,
And placed some last boxes, then turned with a jerk.
And waving around that famous blue flag,
Disappeared from sight in a flurry of swag!

He sprang to his sleigh, and to his team gave a call,
Then away they rolled out, and I soon missed them all.
But I heard him exclaim, through the night that was freezin’,
"Happy VEXmas to all, and have a great season!"

Does anyone know if we can edit a Quote that we have already put in before ordering? For instance I recently requested a quote and, while I can still view it on the site, I can't figure out how to remove or add anything to it.
I would rather not have to recreate the entire quote if they add something that I want . . .

Not sure if this is the right solution of if you already stumbled on it, but if you log in and can view your old quotes and you click order/reorder, it will populate your shopping cart with all the items. Then you can just delete/add items to it and generate a new quote.

If generating a new quote number is a an issue for you, I'd just call the guys at Vex Sales. They have always been prompt at fixing issues like this for me.

Was this ordered through VEX or West Coast Products? We did a search in our system for orders placed around 12/3 shipping to Elk Grove, and there is only one order that looks like it was actually placed through WCP. It shipped on 12/10 - if this is yours and you're still curious, I can PM you a UPS tracking number.

It's 8 here. Good thing I have enough homework to give myself an excuse to stay up waiting for it. :)

Yeah, I'm not sure what they were going for with the timing of this. Maybe it was unavoidable?

The product launch must be 12/16/2015.

Partnership with Colson is awesome. Also the CIM/MiniCim to planetary is a really cool piece. Like the videos say, it will be cool to see how teams use these going forward.

I love the colson wheels, and the VP CIM Mounts. But disappointing in that there is no new drivetrain gearboxes, or any updates to the old ones. I know alot of teams suggested little things that would have been easy to implement.

I'm in love with those Colson wheels. Also the Barrage-in-Versachassis is pretty great.

Yet another year of excellent improvements to the VexPro product line.

Although subtle on the website, Build Blitz 2015 updates have also been posted.

Way to go VEX Pro!

We joked about drilling a hole through the center of a hex shaft to mount the Robot Signal Light on a wheel. Now VexPro has done it for us.

Wow, I don't think you could've have come up with a better middle-ground of the pros/cons. Once again very awesome!

This is seriously awesome. We get all the great parts from last year, plus more parts!

Thunderhex is also an epic name.

That is our new plastic VersaHub, and can be found on the VersaHubs page here: http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexpro/mo...versahubs.html 217-4009, VersaHub (1/2" Hex, Plastic)

You may have missed it because the image didn't display at launch, but it should be fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out!

Amazing products from VEXPro and WCP aside, I really like what both companies have done with their websites.

Are the holes in that hub the same as on the Colson wheels? Are they designed for mounting or something else?

Monochron 16-12-2014 22:14

Re: VEXpro 2015 Product line launch

Is that ThunderHex a Vex invention, or is that design more common than I realize. I was planning on buying a bunch of Hex stock and bearings from them . . . but now I need to consider this stuff as well.

Those holes are just to make them moldable, feel free to use them for other things.

It's a common practice that a few teams use to avoid the headaches of tight hex bearings. (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/ar...p/t-69412.html)

But good on VEX to pass on that relief to the rest of the community.
