Ethernet Camera Trouble
 

We were wondering if we could use last years ethernet camera with this years roboRIO, we just need help on how to get it to work we are a rookie team. Please Help

While I haven't tested it yet, have you tried using the same code as last year? It might work the same way.

The alternative is you can use a USB camera, that will probably have a better resolution.

Direct connect the camera to a laptop or desktop computer. Configure the network port (ip address, subnet mask) to allow communications with the camera. Change the Camera's IP address to a legal one (a function of your team's number). I believe there is a default IP address for the camera in the libraries.

At that point, you should be able to connect it to the robot's ethernet network.

There are setup guides, depending upon which camera you are using.

Yes it will work without a problem. We have been using the IP camera as an alpha and beta test. What language are you programming in?

Simply connect to the axis camera website using the IP and configure it for your use. Plug the RoboRio into the D-link, then plug the camera into the D-link as well.Try to avoid powering the camera and the D-link on the same VRM.

Although we have done that successfully in practice, we will never have both the 5V camera and 5V D-link on the same VRM in competition.

If you have a specific question on how to grab frames let us know.

You can also use the Axis Config tool provided by FRC (installed with the FRC suite i.e driverstation) if you are unsure how to determine the IP of the camera.

When opening LabVIEW and looking at the Welcome Screen, click on the Utilities tab on the left hand side. On this tab, you will see the Setup Axis Camera Tool. Open this up and follow the instructions, and your camera will be good to go! If you are planning on using the camera with the dashboard, remember to click on the "Camera Off" button and select "IP Camera" to bring up the live feed!

If you are using an Axis camera there there is a tool with the NI software to configure it. You can find it under tools when you open LabView or it may also be on your start menu (should also be able to find it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2014\project\Axis Camera Tool).

Use this to configure the camera. It will set the camera for DHCP so it will pickup an IP address automatically and set a username/password of FRC/FRC as well as other settings. Once this is run you should be able to open a web browser and point it to the camera. You may have to set the host name manually to axis-camera for the dashboard and other software to find it.
