Coopertition Economics

If I use these assumptions:
- Every match I play in I choose to get coopertition pts
- I play with 2/3rds of the teams at the tournaments
- we are successful 90% of the time

That decision gets me a 40 point advantage of teams that I dont play, less my failure rate of 10%, or

40 x .333 x .9 = 12 pts advantage per team average

Coopertition set gives me

20 x .333 x .9 = 6 pts advantage per team average

Now I look at the other scenario:
- I refuse coopertition pts each match
- I use the extra time to score points for my alliance
- Assume I score 15 pts with that time
- I play against 1/3 of the teams

15 x .333 = 5 pts advantage per team

I realize that these are estimates, but it would seem to me that coopertition maximizes my points.

I am not sure of the validity of any of your estimates, but I agree with your conclusion. The Coopertition bonus is large enough this year that it likely will be advantageous to accomplish it.

If you play each match with 2 other teams, and against 3 other teams, why have you assumed that you will play WITH 2/3 of the teams (in total) but AGAINST only 1/3? Seems it should maybe be the other way around.

Also, don't the points scored for your alliance only (second scenario, no coopertition) get you "ahead" of ALL of the other teams except the two on your alliance? Whereas the points scored for coopertition get you ahead of (i.e., move you up relative to) all but 6 teams - those in your match?

Re: Coopertition Economics

The key thing about this year is that it is all about developing a point differential with the rest of the regional. A coopertition stack or set develops slightly less of a differential than getting those 20 or 40 points conventionally. For an extreme example, think of a 6-robot regional: it is clear that a coop set or stack is useless at a 6-bot regional, since it would net you zero point differential above the rest of the field.

Coopertition stack: On average, gets you 30ish points ahead of the rest of the field, depending on the size of the regional/district/division. The value improves the larger the competition is, since it means you're sharing it with a smaller fraction of the field.

Acting in your team's interest: If you can get your alliance 30ish points in the time spent doing a coopertition stack, then you should do that instead.

A coop stack will require:
-Carry and drop off at least 1 yellow bin onto the step
-Wait for the other team to drop 2-3 yellow bins on the bin you supplied

That's a whole lot of robot-seconds spent for a 30ish point differential on everybody else.
