Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
Today our team came up with an interesting idea for a way to pick up/ store totes and so here is our first prototype of this idea.

This is a pretty neat idea and I don't even need to zoom in to see the details!

This looks nice. Great job!

Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
Nice hook. It looks like it can only lift one tote at a time though. Have you tried putting a hook on either side?
|
Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
The hook can hold several totes, but it was intended for one at a time. We have not played with using multiple hooks per tote yet, but that is the approach we're most likely to take.

Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
Okay. The tote in the video looked very crooked.

Now .... can you design it so that it can sit on top of 5 just like it, all connected by chain / rope / wire, that can be indexed up as you pick up 5 totes? Gravity will unload you and bring the clips back to the bottom for another run... |

Very cool design!!

This was something that we considered, but ultimately ruled out because of strength concerns of the totes, and lining up was an issue.

Took this idea and ran with it. It's not a standalone hook, rather additional stuff will be mounted on the front. Hoping to build it tomorrow.

How are you going to cut the wood into that shape? Are there slots I can't see? Neat design. I like the modularity. |

Have you considered making the triangular part on the back of the clip a little larger, perhaps twice the size? If you add holes along the bottom backside of the clip ( with a bit larger triangle... ) you could adjust the angle of the front face of the clip by simply moving a the bottom connecting pins to new locations. Just in case you new assembly's added to the front of the clip need angle tweaking. I have to learn to cad better. Good luck. |

Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
My god, if you guys can make a multi-hook system that would be awesome, because i was proposing a very similar idea, but we opted out for a simpler design than mine, so it would be awesome to see another team make my dream design come true!

Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
That is a really ingenious design. However, I'm trying to figure out if is possible to set down totes over an existing stack. Will the hooks swing up and over the handles when moving downwards?

Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
We've been working on this concept a bit.

We chose to go with something similar. Very exciting to see how effectively you have implemented it!

Re: Team 4183 Bit Buckets prototype hook
I'm gonna have to make a trip up to Tucson tomorrow, to see that in person!
