Taxes on FIRST CHOICE
Does any one why we have to pay tax on the FIRST choice items?

Re: Taxes on FIRST CHOICE
Because your location has opted to charge sales tax on online purchases. It is unlawful for Andymark to not collect that tax.

Unless you have processed tax exemption status with AndyMark.

Re: Taxes on FIRST CHOICE
I see you are in Toronto. While some people confuse Canada as the 51st state, you are actually in a different country from AndyMark. Maybe what you are seeing are the import fees?.

I was curious about how tax was calculated, too. The shipping charge and the "tax" charge are separate on the invoice, with the tax being more than the shipping. I figured it might be based on the actual value of the parts or something, but I don't know for sure.

Re: Taxes on FIRST CHOICE
Canada Customs raises red flags for stuff that is worth hundreds or thousands of dollars and yet its value is declared as 0 (because the recipient got it for free as it was donated by manufacturer. Customs expect the end user to pay the federal and provincial sales tax (and potentially more if it is not made in North America) as a minimum on the fair market price of the items. Hence the sales tax that is added on reflects the fair market price. I presume that money collected by Andymark flows to the broker they used to clear the package (Fedex's) to the Canadian government.
If you are a Canadian school, or a registered charity community team you can claim the most of it back. |
