Camera Setup doesn't work

Hello all,

I posted this in the java subset a few days ago, and it didn't seem to get answered. As this is the largest problem we are likely to have this season (our teleop period is completely related to this camera working), we need to have this working relatively soon. Noone has done anything with a camera before on this team, and there are no instructions online that are helpful or that work. The problem is below:

I can't seem to set up the Microsoft Lifecam 3000 camera. I want it to display video without image processing to a dashboard (any dashboard works). I have looked in the RoboRio web interface, and the name of the camera is "cam0". I then booted up the java tutorial "SimpleVision" and ran it. No image appeared on the dashboard (SmartDashboard didn't recognise a camera, The FRC Default and Java dashboards didn't show anything even after I pressed play and cycled through all of the cameras). I literally have taken the Lifecam 3000 out of the box and plugged it in to the RoboRio. Does anyone have any Idea what is happening? If at all possible, I would like the display to be sent out to the Default FRC Dashboard, however any dashboard is acceptable.

Thank you all in advance.

Re: Camera Setup doesn't work

There a bunch of fixes to Java vision code in the update released yesterday, I would start there.

I would also strongly recommend you revisit this:

Anytime you are creating a system with a single Point of Failure you should be analyzing how to do one or more of these three things:
  1. Maximize reliability of the component
  2. Provide complete redundancy
  3. Allow for graceful degradation in the event of a failure

Having your entire robot revolve around the camera streaming back to the dashboard seems like a dangerous plan, especially in light of this:

Just some things to think about while you troubleshoot and try to get the camera working (I am absolutely not suggesting that you should give up or that the camera won't work).
