Yes, I have it working on my native Ubuntu 14.04 workstation and in Virtualbox + VMware Player. PM me and I will give a link to OVA I keep on mega. I'm open to ideas on how to share the VM though since its a pretty sizeable download.

It works pretty well in VMWare Player but not usuable in Virtualbox. My workstation runs at full speed but its got 16gigs of ram and nvidia 750Ti... beats the pants off my laptop.

I am working with the 2016 release of everything and I am getting this error when running the simulator:

Has anyone else encountered and overcome this?

Hey everyone, FRCSim maintainer here...

A few issues to address:
if your C++ code doesn't compile do follow the instructions prensing posted. This can happen if you install a version of Gazebo we didn't anticipate. This will happen on other versions of Ubuntu. It's an easy fix, just right click on the project and go to C++ Settings > includes > and change the sdf or gazebo folder to the one on your computer.

If you get those errors about boost, that tells me you're using a version of Ubuntu other than 14.04...
I know we said this would work, but the issue here is dependencies. You'll need to install libprotobuf-8 and boost 1.54

Tim,

I encountered the same error, and was able to work around it by creating a symlink from Components to lib in the brew directory. To be more specific, go to the brew directory (/usr/local/homebrew in your case), and type the following:

ln -s lib Components

I have had good success running FRCSIM on a powerful Dell XPS within VMWare workstation. I looks like there is an error in the installation script with the ownership of the wpilib folder in the users home directory. If you recursively update the ownership from root to the current user (chown -R user:user wpilib) and re-run the script, it might work.

I would like to get additional details on the process of building a simulated robot from scratch. I believe the process is to build the robot body in solidworks, export and add sensors, then import into gazebo.

I will work to learn the process, capture the details and find a mean to perform the same actions without solid works.

Does anyone have information or experience in this area?

Overall goal is to develop a means for the students to run this process on a medium power computer or an Amazon Cloud computer to support the development of code at home.

I was able to get it working on my Macbook Pro 2015 and Dell Inspiron 15R dual-booted with Ubuntu 14.04 in the beginning of the season, but I haven't touched it since. From the little amount of use I have with it, I've seen that it is very memory intensive.

I have continued to develop a detailed process build a simple robot in SolidWorks, Gazebo Export/Enhance, and run the the FRCSIM (Gazebo).

Here is the draft process. I need to figure out the Z-axis up vs. Y-axis up issue.

All feedback is welcome.

I needed to split the document to get it under the 3 MB limit.

Does anyone know of any detailed documentation for the Gazebo export process. Trial and error takes time.
